JD 5205 trade in

Hello,

Can someone tell me what a 2001 JD5205 MFWD with 521 loader, canopy, worklights, AG tires and 382 hrs is worth on trade-in. The tractor is in excellent shape. I want to make sure I know what to expect when I try and trade up. I was qouted $16,100 which I think is low. I am looking to see what the Iron source book states. Any help would be apprciated.

Asking price and getting price on tractors seem to be relatively close, unlike autos. So the latest one I've seen advertised here was about the same year, with loader, and about twice the hours for $21,000.

Tractorhouse has a listing for a 2002, about 300 hours, 3 remotes, 521 loader, MFWD, $23000.

I'm2 looking at my 2006 official tractor blue book this is whatis listed;5205 4wd retail price NEW $24732,used trade-in AVG.$11620,HIGH $13600.used retail AVG $16820, HIGH $18550. These prices reflect tractor only no loader or cab. I hope this helps

Seems low to me. I would hold out for more or retail it yourself. That is a good tractor - it migth sell in a hurry.

Right around 20K-22K is where they are going now, you can buy a new one for a shade over 26K.

One of my neighbors bought one just like that last month with about 150 hrs along with a 6' mower and boxblade. He gave $22K for all.

Gamble77, About what would Greensouth give as a trade as described?

Grimm1As suggested above,I would try to get more by selling it yourself. When I trade, I expect that the dealer will have some expense to prepare my trade for resale. Plus he has stand behind the tractor as well as some advertising expense and a salesman who needs his or her commision so they can go buy themselves a toy or tool. Which is why the amount he quoted would probably be fair.

Need to take taxes into consideration if you sell it yourself vs. trade.

Let's say your buying a $35,000 setup and trading in your 5205...

Here in MN it's 6.5% tax so if I could trade-in for $22,000 at the dealer I would need to get $23,430 outright to cover the tax differential.

Plus, you are potentially exposed to additional liability when selling it yourself (e.g. the transmission goes out 5 hours after you sell it and the buyer takes you to court - not sying they would win or lose but you would have some expense in your defense).

Just an additional thought.

Seems like fair offer. It is a 2001 and Deere usualy has very good financing on new units. In order to resale 2001 unit vs 06 or 07 customer would want a good deal when purchasing to ofset the difference in interest rates. Also, the pricing guides are not acurate in all locations. Usualy wholesale is retail. Remember, customers buying used are usualy wanting a bargain. I suggest selling on your own. I have seen where customers get more than the dealers get on used a lot of the time.

frenchie4x4's numbers are probably correct, I checked the 2007 version and what he quoted was $500-$700 higher than the 2007 version, those things still depreciate. The dealer is trying to cover his butt and make some $ doing it. If you don't feel its fair, place an ad in the classifieds at a price you are happy with and see what happens.
