No it's not the lock :)

The lever moves normally (not frozen up) but the loader won't move at all in response.

Also absent is the "hissing" noise from the hydraulic box area that is apparent when the lever is moved normally.

Everything else on the tractor is working fine, except the steering is a bit "jerky" -(Could use ideas on that also!) I checked the fuses, as I wasn't sure if it is a purely mecahanical valve assembly or also solenoid-type electric. I am wondering if the valves inside the control/distribution/whatever you call it box might be frozen, but like I said, the lever moves normally.

Any ideas appreciated. I was going to heat the box area where the aux lines come from, but all I have is a torch and didn't want to damage any seals. Temps have been in the high teens at night lately.

Where are you located?

What is the history of the tractor?
What is the "control box" ?

I am in TN.

The "control box" I am referring to is the part where the 2 control cables from the loader joystick run into and then the 4 aux hydraulic lines come out (which then are plugged into the loader hyd lines). It is located just in front of and above the rear axle.

It has been working fine before the cold but the bucket tilt has been a bit slow before that.

May have done this, but re-connect the hoses at the couplers.

Any "history" of the possibility that moisture has crept into the issue? Left outside? heavy rains? or inside with condensation a possibility?

Do you have a power beyond for backhoe? If so, are the two hoses plugged back together properly? Have you changed the filter and cleaned the sump screen lately?

Don't heat the valve body! You could make a problem -- into a disaster!

Can you see the valve spools move on the end of the cables ?

I had the hyd filter changed last season (before haying), and I don't know where the sump screen is

It does stay parked outside all the time so moisture is a possibility.

No other aux hyd. cables to be plgged in wrong.

"Can you see the valve spools move on the end of the cables ?"
Not sure what you mean, the control lever does work and the cables slide into and out of the box. I have friends whose loader system has "frozen up", but usually nothing moves and you can't manipulate the joystick at all (like the lock was engaged.) I would guess the intrior valves must be moving if the cables do, but I don't have a diagram to visualize how the fluid is directed through them.

Have you tried disconnecting and reconnecting the hyd connectors at the mid-mount cluster?

If you follow the hyd lines from the loader back to the Quick Disconnect cluster - you should be able to then follow the lines from the Q/A cluster back to the valve body - which should be back towards the rear of the tractor in proximity to the axle housing.

Willl's question is in regards to this valve body -- when either the joystick moves or the cable from the loader control moves - you should see one of the cylinders on the valve body move in or out.

If that's not happening - then there's something wrong with the valve body or hyd line (debris, or ice) or there's something wrong with the cable.

found the valve body, the cylinders don't move in and out when I use the joystick, but this one appears to have covers/caps over the rear of the cylinders so they could be moving internally. Anyone have a parts diagram for the valve body? There are a few large bolts that are accesable and I miht be able to pull them to see inside if I knew where they went to -

Also, where's the sump screen / hydraulic screen on this guy?
