I guess I should have known "if something seems too good to be true it probably isn't"!

Went back to the JD configurator and read the blue print at the bottom of the $275 dollar charge for "factory installation of the loader".

And there is the statement "will create a separate invoice for the loader". So, what was a killer deal on a great sounding tractor will likely only be a good deal.

I got a quote from the local dealer. Just a shade over $45k. That's with the loader and a few options I like. That's a lot of money, but also a lot of tractor. Not sure I would even need that much tractor.
I'd like something in the 70-80hp range with a turbo, 4wd, cab and loader. Considered used 5420. Also looked at Mahindra 7010 (and the others). Mahindra has a bigger cab model coming. Does Deere plan anything that is going to compete with the price of a Mahindra 7010? $34k is the price on the Mahindra. I would pay a bit more to buy made in the USA.

For a 90hp tractor and FEL with some bells and whistles --- wipers, mirrors, front and rear lights, AM-FM radio, extra rear SCV's, and econ PTO, bigger tires, fenders... Well, that don't seem too bad!

I haven't played on the JD site for an estimate for a cab 4720 lately, but I wouldn't be too surprised if the 8603 was only about $3 higher.

$45k is not quite a steal, but it does sound very competitive for the size and features.

i spoke to a dealer and he stated that the 5005 series has stopped production, and a new model isnt due untill sept or oct of this year. needless to say he wasnt too pleased about not being able to order any untill fall.... he also didt say whether or not there would be more options on this model such as powerreverser..... but he assumed jd would still go along the budget line with this series.

i was told by my local JD dealer that they were going to combine features of the 5005 series and 5003 series. you're correct about JD discontinuing the 5005 series though. my guess is JD is going to come out with a Ag Utility with options such as 2wd or 4wd, gear transmission or maybe 2 or three other options. basically they'll combine the strenghts of both series and have one great all around utility tractor with lots of options. just a guess though.

Great, less than two months after I bought a 5105....

Have to say that if I could get the same tractor with power-reverser and 12 forward gears, I would jump on it. I don't think anything else needs changing.

Didn't notice if it was a turbo version or not. Or other engine specs.

Yes, it is turbo 4 cylinder. 99hp @ engine, probably 85 @ PTO with economy PTO. Perfect for haying.

I thought the FEL came at that price too. That's why I thought it was a "steal" of a bargain.
