Posting this for my son, he's too busy haying to get online.

Pardon the lack of info...
He had a 12v line direct off the battery (no relay) to power electric over hydraulic implements (baler I believe) which was apparently dead, and instead of fixing it correctly, he snipped the line which in turn welded itself to the frame somewhere, and then killed the tractor - smoke, a little flicker of flames, etc. then the headlights were on but no other dash lights.
When he hits the key he hears one click, then nothing.
Now, I'm pretty familiar with electricity (been working single and three phase big and little stuff for 35 years) and am very familiar with my Kioti systems, but don't even have a place to start on the big JD.

My guess is there was a relay he locked closed until the ground smoked out, and trying to figure out where it may be, the ones in the cab seem fine (so he says) guessing those would be glow plug heaters, stop selenoid (if equipped) and maybe something similar to what I have - there are 3 plus a 50a on mine.

I've already old him how not to have this happen again (relay, no cutting wires, etc).

Anyone have a wiring diagram handy? Just trying to help out one of the hardest working young men I know, totally not a millennial stereotype of guy at all.
Thanks for any direction to get us pointed in the right direction.
Thanks!
MT

There are 2 main fuses that are located under the front right side cab floor. There is a pair of posts that are at the top step on the right side where you can jump start the tractor. Those posts are attached to a plastic housing. Inside the plastic housing is 1- 80 amp fuse and 1- 160 amp fuse and a main relay. I would check there first.

Just a guess on my part, but I'd 1st check out the battery... may have shorted it out and killed it internally.

If not the battery, start with a charged one, and lift the connections to follow them progressively from the battery on out... hope someone can help you with the wiring diagram to do that.

edit.. and do what jd110 suggests first. ;)

Exactly what I was hoping for thanks!

I wonder how these guys made out with the advice given?

Frank

Thanks for the gentle reminder to update...

The fuses under the step are good, and the tractor can be started by jumping the solenoid. There is no activity when turning the key, however if you do turn the key the headlights come on and stay on with no change if you cycle the headlight switch.
My son has my meter and is going to go through the other relays to see if one is a dead short, but the consensus is the ignition switch may be cooked.
Since he was too busy buying a tractor at the auction yesterday, he hasn't dug back into the problem yet, preferring a number 3 Phillips to jump the starter instead of fixing the real problem.
I've also found it near impossible to find a schematic of anything with green paint on it, any hints for that issue?
Thanks all.

For electrical schematics you need a Factory Tech manual. Some JD dealer service departments will print out sections for you.
