My neighbor asked me if I could find out the best method to disassemble & replace seals in 6715 MFWD steering cylinder. Does anyone know correct method? Thanks in advance Jim
IIRC he told me 740 but I just checked JD parts & didn't locate "740". On one style I saw an internal nut that appears needs to be removed in order to remove cylinder from frt axle housing. He sent me some photos & his cylinder is your first photo. My experience with this type cylinder is ZERO

The first photo is the 740 axle that bolts on with 3 bolts.
The second photo is the AS2045 that has the external nut that holds it in place. Once the nut is removed, the cylinder comes out of the axle. The gland is held in place on the opposite side with an external snap ring and an internal snap ring.
Thank you for your replies. My friends tractor has PS cylinder as shown in the 1st photo. So I guess disconnect tie rods then remove the 3 bolts then remove cylinder for disassembly??? I read on another discussion forum to heat seals in warm water for easier assembly.

That's the way I see it. The glands appear to be held by wire type snap rings.
I was confused by your comment when you said a nut had to be removed, but I saw the 740 picture and your comment on that. The kit, AL160541, is out of stock in a lot of places, but can be found Googling it. Heating will make the seals definitely more pliable.
