I just recently bought a late 90s JD 6x4. It is burning a little oil but I think its a good machine. I want to put a cab on it so I can safely transport me and my dog while duck hunting. Anyone have a cab they want to sell? Anyone construct their own UTV cab? Im thinking I may just need to build one. I have some ideas about how to do it but hoping I might find a used cab.

Well I have not found a cab but I did find a set of excellent condition doors that I think are from an early edition Curtis cab. I bought material today and will build the cab. I will post a few pics along the way. Maybe down the road it will give someone else that needs a cab a few ideas. Here is a picture of the right door.

If you need pictures of one to fit those doors let me know.

Thanks for the offer, we have a curtis hard-side cab on the gator at work if I ever work up the ambition to cab the 'home gator'.
I tend to use the cabbed tractor if the weather isn't perfect.

Cab is coming right along. I am using glass for the windshield but wanted to use 3/8 plexiglass for the trapezoid pieces in front of the door posts. Finally came up with some cheap plexiglass yesterday. I am hinging those pieces to make giant vent windows. I think that will be an improvement over the factory cab as the vent windows will scoop lots of air. The frame is painted and installed. I should get the sheet metal today or tomorrow.

I will get to test it as I’ll be using it in the river bottoms. The main purpose is to get my dog and I, with all our gear, to the duck blind. We can mostly stay on dikes for that so I think it’s up to the task. Now when it gets muddy and we are doing other stuff that may be a different story.

That looks more than just professional fabrication.. excellent work. Good hunting.. must be anxious to get you, the dog, and the gator out hunting ducks.

For me, I'd need some risers to handle the limbs and branches that continuously hang down along my woods trails to scrape on my gator roof. Get those limbs to rise up over the top.

Hey neighbor! Yeah, that is what I battle too. Being a cab or rops, it's better to get them branches to slide up over vs capturing them in a crook or light.

We would have to do some measuring but I think this cab is a little lower profile than many so that helps. I have been using the gator the last couple cold rainy days. Where has this thing been all my life???? This 6x4 feels like you are riding on a cushion of air. Very nice riding. Season starts in 8 days so we are getting ready!

Just noticed two new doors on the Madison Craigslist (Waupun loc.) Don't know the reason but there in case anyone interested in doing this same fabrication.
I have the croc top on my gator which opens with the box, and usually no problem with catching a limb underneath, just rubbing under them.

However with my ROPS on the 4300, would be nice to have the risers instead of getting knocked in the back of the head when a limb is caught on the non-folding ROPS.
