JD #7 backhoe for a new 790 vs aftermarket models

Assuming I am willing to spend $5-6K for a new backhoe, would you guys go for the JD #7 or an aftermarket model. From what I have read, I will NOT go with a 3pt model and spend the extra $ for one with a solid frame assembly. If you recommend another brand, please suggest exact model numbers for my new 790.

I would get the John Deere. Why? Having a match would be important to me. After all, if they are good enough to make the tractor, then the attachments will probably be good too.

I have a 7 hoe on my 790 and it is certainly a slick set up. Granted, it's not the biggest, or most powerful thing on the market but it's very well suited to the 790's capabilities. The put on/take off is very fast (under 10 minutes for sure).

I've never seen a different backhoe on a 790 but I'd want some assurance that it goes on and comes off as easily /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Actually the JD 7 Backhoe retails for $7000 with a 13" bucket, plus installation. The 7 Backhoe is good hoe. You also may want to look at one of the new Woods Groundbreaker-X Backhoes. The BH70-X the unit that would fit your 790. That rig retails for about $7250 or so (with subframe). But no matter what hoe you go with you'll need rear hydroulic kit. Deere calls it a Power Beyond Kit. Thats another $400 - $500 or so.

Maybe the hydraulic package you mentioned for $400-500 depends on dealer. I'm looking at a quote sheet that was worked up for me today. Mountings, Hydraulics, Subframe and Rear Hanger Brackets for 7 backhoe, $0.00. So if everyone else is charging $500, these guys must be VERY fair. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I put the power beyond kit for my backhoe on myself and it was nowhere near $400. Maybe $120? Wasn't too hard to install, if you do it yourself let me know. There was one confusing instruction that I figured out on my own /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Regarding these power beyond kits from JD. You may
be able to buy just the pwr byd plug and use standard
hoses and adapters. That is how I did 3 of my JD 955s.
The plug was $2.50. I prefer rubber hoses to the steel
pipes and Parker or Pioneer QDs are WAY cheaper than JD
quick disconnects. Deleting the QD bracket also keeps it
from intefering a backhoe seat.
