Wellll - okay - this explains a lot.
Yup looks like a re-engineering job is awaiting me on this one.
I noted on the photos that it appears there is also a missing cover for the connectors on the black control-lever box. Might you be able to send a photo or two of both sides of that box?
The thought that those bars were welded on to fix a stressed arm bugs me.
The engine has about 830 hours on it and that backhoe must have had all of them.
It see dried concrete splattered around the grill and bucket area and wonder if that may have related to the backhoe use, too.

I could be wrong but I don't think the boom was damaged, looking at the pics I think it all comes back to a damaged cylinder on the main boom, original owner breaks/bends the cylinder , prices a Deere cylinder and says "no way!" Orders a close match for pin holes and stroke , but the big end on the tie rod cylinder won't fit in the boom, so they weld on these "extensions" to move the lower pin hole outside the boom. Now that big ugly cylinder fits ! Only when they swing the hoe to the stops they realize they have a problem and try to extend the swing stops, (note in the photos the original stops are still intact), but the extended stops bend and you cream the hoses.

So I'm guessin you put a deere cylinder back on it and cut all the cabbaged up junk off the boom you no longer have a problem.

Interesting... so those flat components are non-standard aftermarket additions.

This may sound rude, and I don't mean it to be...but how the heck can you look at those welds and think that is factory? That looks like such a blatant hack job, it would have kept my from buying this machine altogether.

K7LN , on those control pics you just posted - what is the purpose of the restricted joystick ? to prevent an accidental swing when backing in the garage and lowering the boom maybe ? just curious.

Why do tractors have seat switches? One word.... lawyers. It's their responsibility to protect us from ourselves you know. Heaven forbid that anyone would be responsibile for their own actions.

Been away a bit due to illness in family.

Starting to work on the tractor again - it appears that the former owner did attempt to "beef up" the #7 Backhoe with the aid of his welding equipment.
Both ends of the primary arm cylinder have been modified with double layer steel.

I have not found any evidence of metal fatigue or failure - just the second layer of steel reinforcements (see attached photos).
At this point, I will weld some new braces on the arm to prevent it from swinging to far in and trashing the hydraulic hoses and/or connectors (been there, done that).

Since he had removed the #7 backhoe seat (and all supporting brackets and components) I would like to replace those.
Anyone have any ideas where I might find a complete seat assembly?

Ahh, now I understand. Those "beef ups" were made in order to mount that silly looking farm supply cylinder in the dipper stick position. I'll bet if you got ahold of the guy who did that he'd whip you up a fine looking seat!
