JD 3720???
JD 72\" Grapple with 300cx loader to big?

Is the JD 72" grapple to much for the 300CX on the JD 3720?

I'm not sure of the weight of the JD 72" grapple?

Thank you for any help!

Does anyone know what the weight of the JD 72" grapple bucket is?

Re: JD 72\" Grapple with 300cx loader to big?

I don't know how heavy the JD grapple bucket is, but once you find out, this info might help you a bit. I have a 400x loader with a 72 inch Anbo grapple rake, which weighs 780 lbs. I think you drop about 800 lbs of lift capacity going from 400x to 300cx (2368 lbs to 1598 lbs at pivot point) .

My 400x doesn't have any trouble with the 780 lb grapple rake, but I defintely notice the extra weight on the front end of the tractor when switching from a straight bucket to the grapple (it does affect the stability of the tractor). PLus your 3720 has about 800 lbs less tractor weight than my 4320, so make sure you plan on sufficient ballast if you get a grapple (assuming of course that the JD grapple bucket adds a fair amount of weight, which I'm guessing it does).

Good luck.

Re: JD 72\" Grapple with 300cx loader to big?

Found the info in JD.com

The JD 72 in. grapple bucket weights 586 lbs. as compared to the JD HD 73 in. bucket at 283 lbs.

So I guess the numbers work out to be...

300CX Lift capitcity 1598 lbs.
JD 72" Grapple weight 568 lbs.
300CX Net of 1030 lbs.

I plan on using the ballast box filled with concrete for a total rear ballst of 825 lbs. on the 3720

Is this enough ballast?

OldPiper, is the grapple bucket the same as the 4N1 ? If so where did you find info on it and do you have any idea on the cost?

Thanks Shooter

Re: JD 72\" Grapple with 300cx loader to big?

Old Piper,

One comment on how they calculate lift capacity. I remember reading on JD website that the lift capacity is calculated with a standard bucket on the loader, so that will improve your numbers slightly.

Depending on what you're using your grapple bucket for, you could always start with your ballast box and go to liquid in the tires if need be (assuming you don't already have liquid).

Re: JD 72\" Grapple with 300cx loader to big?

Rayder,

Thanks for the information. I believe the 300CX and 400X loaders have the same optional bucket list?

Here is what I found in the Bucket Specifications section of the 400X Loader manual.

61 in. Materials Bucket 190 lbs.
73 in. Materials Bucket 223 lbs.
61 in. HD Bucket 246 lbs.
73 in. HD Bucket 283 lbs.
73 in. High-volume Bucket 348 lbs.
85 in. High-volume Bucket 394 lbs.
60 in. 4-1 Bucket 563 lbs.
72 in. 4-1 Bucket 638 lbs.
72 in. Grapple Bucket 568 lbs.

Hope this helps others considering any of optional buckets on the 300CX. I'll give a review of the 300CX with the 72 in. Grapple bucket soon.
