Own a JD 750 with a starting problem. Sometimes turn the key then clicks other times will start right up. When jumped, it starts right up. Has a new starter, battery, connections cleaned and placed a battery conditioner on it... I've been told it could be a neutral safety switch or something about placing a second relay. What's your thoughts?

Normally I would say that the battery post need to be cleaned. You've already done this so check the battery cables. I've seen where they are not making a good connection where the wire goes into the clamp at the post. If wiggling the cable while holding the key in start position lets the motor start then you know where to look. Please make sure the tractor is in neutral while doing this.

Indicates it is a battery problem.. you said it has a new battery, but then also placed a battery conditioner on it. Why would you place a battery conditioner (not sure what that is other than a trickle charger) on a new battery?

JD has been adding starter relays to give the "S" post on the starter solenoid more amperage for yrs. In parts photo below is an example.

I posted this in one the older threads that was linked above, but try this... next few times you crank the tractor, have a hammer or mallet handy. If you hear the solenoid click when you turn the key to crank, hold the key in the crank position, and rap the starter on the side of it. Hit it hard a couple times, but not hard enough to crack the cast housing. If the starter all of a sudden engages and spins the motor over, then you need the starter relay kit. Good luck.

I experienced those same issues with my 650. Drove me nuts....for years! Every time I'd get a voltmeter on the starter solenoid, the thing would start. Then one day.....bingo! I had 6 or 7 volts on the solenoid wire with the key to start. Pulled the wire off and had 13 volts.
All the safety switches checked good with an ohm meter and it ended up being a loose spade connector in the access panel below the fuse panel where the solenoid wire connected to the safety switches. I could see the molex connector was discolored from heat over the years once I got it cleaned up.
That was 4 years ago and it never acted up again.
