JD 755 1993? Enough?

Had been looking for a 4300, 4310. Found a great deal locally on a '93 JD 755 about 20hp with all the implements.

I am concerned that 20hp is not enough power. I need to be tilling two fields. One was cut feed corn,the other cut wild flowers. Total acreage under 2. The JD has hydo, 4wd, and turf tires and FEL.

If it is just going to take me longer than with a 30hp tractor that is fine. But if 20hp can't till or use a brush hog well, than I am in trouble.

The fields are clayey, flat and in Long Island, N.Y. and I need to get to work fast. I will till and then seed sundlowers, feedcorn, and wild flowers this spring.

A 20hp tractor can till and brush hog just fine if it has the right sized implements, and of course, that means smaller than a bigger tractor would use, and therefore, more time to do the jobs. I've sure done a lot of brush hogging with a 48" brush hog and tilling with a 40" tiller on a Kubota B7100 (16 engine and 13 PTO hp).

that is exactly the size tiller the 755 is coming with a 40". And it has 17hp to the pto.

A 755 was the first tractor I had. It handled a landpride 15-50" tiller fine, it knew it was there but did handle it. I had a 5' bush hog and it was more than she wanted in taller stuff, a 4' model would be more to right. The 755 & 855 were very good tractors for me.

Thanks. My 4310 package was going to cost $30k with tax and shipping. I am doing the 755 with hog, fel, tiller, rake, finishing mower, ph digger just over $10K. I just need to buy the seeder and planter and hopefully will be ok. Will be serviced by the jd dealer too. Glad you had a good experience. Was worried about the hp size.

That's one heck of a deal!!!

For working 2 acres, the 4300 would have probably been too much tractor. You're buying a machine (and implements) that should fit your needs perfectly!

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. My only concern might be with the turf tires. But ofcourse I don't own a fwd tractor with turf tires. May work just fine. I'm sure that someone on here will tell you though. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I am doing a lot work which requires traversing a manicured lawn. That's why I am using turf tires. Will it hurt my ability to use the tiller effectively?

you will loose some traction with the turf tires, but overall should be fine. The 755 is a good size for 2 acres. I don't think you will regret the purchase.

the 755 should do u fine and with all the implements u are getting sounds like a real good deal. as for turfs, u will lose some traction, but if u need to be kind to a lawn they are your best bet.if u find u don't like them u could go to bar/turfs or r4's notas likd to your lawn but not bad if u stay out of 4wd while on t. and turn slow.

I for got to mention that my 755 had turf tires on it. It did fine just leave the loader on for field work. the extra weight helps traction.
What kind of grass seeder are you looking at, any prices?

I am looking for a grass seeder that can handle wildflower seeds. Will be using it pretty exclusively for wildflowers.

Looking to spend as little as possible. But know I may need to get to $2k.

1st timer here. Live in iowa. Couldnt resist giving you my advice. I have a 95 755. Take my advice and equip it in this way. It helps out bunches! 1st thing you need to do is fill your rear tires with fluid. If you have a full load of something, especially wet in your bucket, your really light in the back end. FILL EM! 2nd, take them turf tires off your fronts. Put the industrial tires(not ag ones) on your fronts. It helps out SOOOOOOO much! Doesnt really tear up the turf either. Attachemnts I got are 50" Land Pride rotor tiller, 10"auger on a Land Pride post hole digger, 5' rear articulating blade, and a 5 foot landscape rake. Would like to have a backhoe attachement but alas, it would sit to much betwen uses.
