Oil & Fuel JD 770 Yanmar Diesel will not run

My JD 770 quit while I was going down the road at an even rpm. It did not smoke, miss out, or shudder before it quit. It is a low hr tractor in good shape. It cranks over good, but it does'nt smoke, or give any idication it is going to start. It has plenty of fuel, and all the fuses are good. I was told to check the shut off solenoid, but I am not sure where this is. Does anyone have any ideas?

Go to JDParts. You need to create an account, but then click on the parts manual, left part of the screen.

Click on model search, and put 770. The alphabetic search worked for me, s for solenoid, there are drawings which can help you locate and identify individual parts.

Its not as good as a service manual, but a big help...

has been cold . i had the same experience after a period freezing weather. the fuel filter was completely blocked. so i would check that one and if it is replace it

Steve, where are you located. Here in Nova Scotia right now I would say that your fuel system is gelling if you're not running an additive. My 2 cents

I pretty much agree with the other postings.

With a diesel, it can pretty much only be air or fuel, and air isn't very likely, so you can pretty safely assume it isn't getting fuel.

If I understand correctly that it had been running and then quit, I would expect it is pretty likely to be some sort of fuel contamination, gelling, clogged injectors, etc. If there is a shut-off solenoid, that should of course be ruled out. The fuel filter should be real easy to rule out.

Maybe this is all obvious, but that's where I'd start.
