Just wanted to thank everyone for the help. Had to replace the ignition switch, control module, and the fuel shut off solenoid. I was a little nervous after hooking everything up and starting it and hoping the solenoid wouldn't blow the guts out of it.

The replacement solenoid that your friend put in might have had a winding or two that shorted together, causing a lower resistance (thus drawing more current at the same time). While drawing more current, that could have possibly damaged the component(s) in the control module providing the 12VDC to the solenoid. Hopefully you got it fixed for good now!

I have not looked at the diagrams. But it sounds the initial activation circuit might not be timing out. To initially pull in the solenoid a higher current/ more powerful winding is activated. Once the machine starts and is in run mode a lower current winding holds it in place. My guess is if both windings are active it would overheat the solenoid and it could burn up or if sealed, blow up.

This is controlled by the time delay module . On my 670 the high current winding is activated through a relay. If the points on this fused closed the high current winding would always be active. The relay could remain closed if the time delay module failed

This is only a partially educated guess.
