HI GUYS, I AM HAVING A PROBLEM WITH MY WOODS LOADER. THE BUCKET TILTS BACK AND FORTH AND IT DROPS FINE, BUT WHEN I TRY TO RAISE THE BUCKET IT IS VERY SLOW TO MOVE AND SQUEALS SOMETHING AWFUL. I CHECKED THE LEVEL OF HYD FLUID AND ADDED A LITTLE TO ACHEIVE THE PROPER LEVEL BUT SLOW LOADER STILL EXISTS. I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE ANY HELP AS I AM NEW TO TRACTOR OWNERSHIP. I BOUGHT THIS JD USED WITH ABOUT 275 HRS IN JUNE, 2005

First question is how did it operate when you first bought the tractor? Did the loader work correctly then?

Assuming it did...

Squealing may indicate an air bound system, but that should bleed out during cycling of the loader.

Check all fittings for tightness. It's possible a loose fitting may be the problem.

Hello, good evening and welcome.
I am a bit of an idiot so I am assuming the pump is not belt driven, the squealing you hear is fluid bypassing under load. If you isolate where the squeal is coming from you can repair the problem. Cylinders, valves and pumps will all squeal if they have internal leaks. If your bucket curls with a load in place without the noise then I'd say it's a boom cylinder(s) making the noise or the control valve because of a leaking seal. Sometimes there are external leaks and sometimes there are not. Leaking high pressure hyd fluid can penetrate skin so if you suspect you have pinpoint leaks and see puddles anywhere, use safety glasses, appropriate gloves and a bit of cardboard when investigating.

All the best,
Martin

THANKS FOR THE INFO, I'M SOMEWHAT OF A NEWBIE, WHERE DO I CHECK FOR A BENT CYLINDER ROD? THE SQUEALLING SEEMS TO BE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH MY SEAT WHICH IS WHERE THE HYDRO RESERVIOR IS.

THANKS ROY, THE LOADER WORKED FINE WHEN I BOUGHT IT. I DON'T SEE ANY LEAKS, BUT I DID UNHOOK THE COUPLER CONNNECTION LAST WEEK TO SEE IF MY HYDRO LOG SPLITTER WOULD FIT MY CONNECTION. IT WAS THE #3 CONNECTION ON MY 4 WAY VALVE. ALSO I DID NOTICE THAT AS I GEAR DOWN TO INCREASE ENGINE RPM'S I GET A LITTLE BETTER RESPONE FROM THE LOADER LIFTING.

Maybe check the connections and then try with a little higher RPM.
