JD 790 with low hours.....Questions

Can't judge by me cause I stole mine. 2001 JD 790 576 hours with 70
FEL and ballast box....$4,750 hehehehee I love it!!

I am looking at buying a really nice JD790 that is 4 yrs old but has only 34 hrs!! R1's, 300 loader, It is cosmetically still new.....but what should I be worried about? for instance ....have the piston rings seated?....any issues with the break in oil still in motor? No warranty left of course. It has been in a shed the whole time. Asking price is coming down each week but currently at $14500 with a Big Tex trailer. I would offer less....what would be a fair price to both of us? JD dealer said it is too high of asking price as a 3005 is only about $16000.

I bought my 2003 790 in 2005. The machine had 24 hours on the meter. The tractor you're looking at isn't too far off that.
I wouldn't worry about the rings seating...but leave that break-in oil in the sump until you have about 60 hours, then change it. I had the same concerns as you (bought my machine from an out of state sight unseen). My local dealer was pretty vehement about not changing the oil until break-in was complete.

You do have to wonder why someone would buy these tractors and never use them...but they do.

Well looks like I will be looking at a new JD 3005 or a Massey 1600 series as my accountant just told me I cannot take the investment tax credit and extra depreciation unless it is a brand new tractor......nuff said.....tax dollar's saved make the decision easy.
