It does sound like a break problem. You say that you have only put 4 hours on the tractor since you originally posted this problem, correct? If the tractor isn't used very often, there could be some rust in the brake drums causing them to drag.

Four hours is correct, it's up in the mountains and I can't get too it as much as I'd like.
I miss my Tractor when I'm not able to use it.

When I get that noise, it does indeed sound like a brake drum groan.

I'll find the linkage and back it off on side and see what happens.
Is there any sort of brake drum/pads I can inspect?
Seems like most everything is internal in the back end?

Your brakes are inside your rear diff housing, and are more like a
motorcycle's clutch than a car's brakes.

I have found that it takes very little pressure on the brake lever
arm to cause significant drag.

Hmm.. I mention break dragging back on page 1.. not even a notice.. now at the end of page 2 and 3 it's the latest thing...go figure!

Here is what I found...

I jacked up the back end and tried to spin a wheel.

It would rotate but, it didn't want to.

The opposite wheel went the opposite direction.:D
I was happy to see that!

I was surprised by the amount of effort it took to rotate the tire.
I was thinking it would be like a car but it took more effort.

I plowed with the tractor for a short time and it always favored the
side that does not have the drag issue.
(The dragging side would not break loose in the snow but the other wheels would loose traction and spin.)
See my other thread on why I stopped plowing...

What does this all mean...

Did you try pulling back on the brake actuator lever on the top of the
inboard side of the axle housing? You may have to disconnect the
brake pedal rod to determine if this is the cause.

Ditto what DK said.. you need to find out why that side drags.. HOPEFULLE it is a brake issue.. and not something more like a bearing.. etc.

Jack-it back up and disconnect the actuator rod if you have to to free it up.. post back.. we are all dieing to know.

You guys are great!

Unfortunately, I won't see my tractor again for at least two weeks.
So I can't test anything for just a bit.
It's going to have to stay snowed in and broken for the moment.
However it will give me time to locate the steering part that gave up the ghost...

I sure hope it's the brake:rolleyes:
