Hi,

I have been looking for a JD X55 or 40xx/41xx CUT for sevceral months. Have located a 855 set up just the way I want:
60 in MMM, 70A FEL, turf tires, 390 hours 2nd owner. Seller claims it is in excellent condition, no leaks or problems, garage kept, used mainly for mowing. I plan to see it Saturday and am wondering if his asking price of $12,500 is in line. I checked machinerylink and it seems in the ball park if the machine is truly excellent.

I would appreciate any thoughts on price, or prices on 41xx machines in comparison to the 855s Thak you kindly.

Those 855's are outstanding tractors. If it meets your needs, I'd buy it in a heartbeat!

As far as the price ($12500)...a friend of mine traded his 855 (9-10 years old with about 950 hours on it...good shape, but a few dents and faded paint) for a 4310. The dealer gave him $12500 and then asked $13500 on the lot. I don't know what it ultimately sold for (my estimate, knowing the dealer would be $12500-$13000).
So, I'd say the price you quoted is right in the ball park for a nice 855.

Check www.machinefinder.com - you'll see what the dealers are asking for similar machines. Rather than search by model number, I would go by Hp. You will also see other models and may be surprised that, for example, a 4000TEN series is hardly any more. Now if an 855 is all you want, then by all means search by the model.

Thanks for the feedback. I have considered the 4x1x series also, just haven't located one set up right yet... Believe it or not, I like the ingress/egress of the 55 series better (I am a rather "portly" gentleman, to put it mildly), and they seem easier to get on/off than the 4x1x series.

I have cvhekced macinerylink and machine finder, and the pricing seems ok for a truly nice tractor. I'd feel a little better if it were at/under 12k, so we'll see what it looks and sounds like and go from there.

Thanks again.

Maybe the newer series is better then. More seat time! Why get off? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That's great! Maybe when the whole deal gets together the 855 will be priced 'right'.

The 55 series does have a few features that are nicer than the newer ones; the engagement knob for the 4WD for one. To me, it was the most convenient of all. Just remember, you are talking about older machines.
