John Deere American Farmer. I was just wondering if anyone has played this game? My kids got it for me for my birthday, and I love it. My wife just gives me the look when she walks by while I'm playing.

After I posted the above I started thinking if there was a demo out there. I found out there was one, so I downloaded it. I guess this old Intel Celeron 700 mhz (with 192 Mb Ram, 64Mb PCI video card) still has it. Even though the game requires at least a Pentium III 866 (with 128 Mb Ram and 16 Mb video card) I thought I'd give it a try. I installed it and ran it. The menu worked fine. Then I held my breath and started a game. When it loaded, to my surprise, it ran rather well. I think I may just have to go pick it up. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I got mine from Wal-Mart. I have also seen it online from ABC Groff in New Holland, PA. I would assume that John Deere dealers would have it if they sell toys.

The game gives you several different scenarios. You manage employees and equipment to grow different crops. You can raise cattle and hogs. During the game you have to deal with bugs and bad weather, market conditions for your crops and cattle. The list goes on. The game is made by Bold games.

I see Jayc found a demo, I don't know where that is but maybe it's at Bold games website.

I saw the game at a local store but I couldn't see where you could raise sheep so I passed on it, thinking that it's mostly advertising. The kids have sim-farm which they really like playing and you can raise sheep on it.

Was given to us by a neighbour with too slow of computer, tried it out last night.

Went broke in one year, found out you can't harvest corn in Michigan in Novemeber like you can in Canada so we lost 600 acres of ripe corn, but lots of fun!

I found a demo here.

When you install the demo you are given the option if you want to pay for the full version. You are then given a code you can put in to unlock the game. The demo is actually the full version of the game but is only good for 60 minutes. If you are on dial up it will take quite a while to download because it is about 84MB. If you are sure it will work on your computer, but you have dial up I would recommend just buying it in the store. That way you at least get it on CD with a nice looking box. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I have the retail version. I just downloaded it to see if it would work.

Also, you can download a patch from the site above. It is only about 3MB so itsn't bad for those with dial up. I think the versions in the store may already be patched. When you start the game and are at the menu look in the bottom left corner for some small numbers. They might show a version of 1.01. That is the patch version as well. When I went to install the patch it told me version unknow, so my game must already be patched. You can see the patch fixes here. Scroll down a little in the Technical Support Info pane to see the patch fixes (and download it there as well).

The game is pretty cool, but I wish you could choose from more types of equipment. Maybe even having to start out with old John Deere machines and work your way up to the new stuff. I find it odd having to start a farm with only brand new equipment.
