JD Battery short life

So my x300 is approaching 2 years old. Battery already shot. What a disapointment, In 1993 I bought a LX172 and the stock Battery lasted 12 years. What happen to quality? I talked to my dealer today and they said that 2 years is quite normal for a battery in these, are you kinding me? And he wanted to sell me another one just like the original! I don't think so! Come on JD folks what's with this? My replacement battery in my old LX172 I bought at Les Schawb and it is still going strong after 7 years. (sold the LX to my buddy). I know where I will be going for a replacement Battery and not the dealer. How soon will I be replacing my battery in my 2 year old 2520. Probably pretty soon.

Hopefully the batteries won't be odd sized ones like on my 4200. I have to go to the dealer for them; but at least they are maintenance free types now.

You must have had a fluke of a battery. Even a 12 month battery should last 6 or 7 years. The dealer was full of it IMO. I had 12 month batteries last a long long time, even those from the dealer.

Bought my 4110 in 04 and the original battery is still going strong.

Temperature ,operator's habits, alternator size, electrical loads and vibration all play a part. High temps above 77F rapidly shorten lead-acid battery life. Short duty cycle operation at part throttle will rapidly beat a battery to death. A lead acid battery that is chronically undercharged will rapidly fail. Leaving a switch on and deep discharging a battery even once ruins the plate surfaces.

I usually get 5-6 years on batteries from Deere. Occasionally longer than that.
A lot depends on a number of variables that isn't easy to tie down to one thing.
Some tractors are lesser quality and I suspect lesser quality battery gets dropped in to save money and keep the cost down.

I have 2 tractors, 5 ATV's, 2 motor cycles, 2 JD riding mowers and 5 cars/trucks. I know how to take care of batteries and their normal life cycles. And I repeat that this battery is/was a cheap piece of crap that JD put in there. What really bothers me is their attitude that this is the norm and they think that I should buy another one from them. When I asked them if they had a better replacement battery they said no this is the only ones the have and they think that these batteries are one of the best ones out there.

You must have had a fluke of a battery....

There are more flukes out there than one would wish for. The battery gave out on my New 2520 within 6 months of getting it. It was replaced through warranty, but I was still dissappointed.

By the way, I love my Deere's and they are all nice peices of equipment. Just dissapointed in the quality of the battery and yes it could be a "Fluke" but the response of the dealer to say that this is quite normal. I just don't think this is Normal. The X300 has been a joy to use and glad I purchased it. Would reccomend the rider to anyone, just not the JD battery if 2 years is typical.
