I am thinking about buying a 4' box blade for my JD495x AWS and was wondering which would be a better box blade, the JD or the Kingkutter? Does anyone know the thickness of the box?

I have a 72" Frontier box blade for my 4310. Frontier is the brand name that the JD dealer here sells for their branded equpment. I like it pretty well so far. One thing I do wish was different, the scarifier tines only have two positions, either up for storage, or down about 4". Some of the other brands have 3 or 4 different settings for these tines and I think that would be more useful for different soils. It is made pretty heavy and has done everything I've needed so far.
I also looked at the LandPride brand and would have bought one of these if they had had a 72" in stock at the time.
Both look to be decent blades for the money.
Can't comment on the King Kutter, have never used one.

Good luck,

DT

check the archives / do a search for "boxblade" or ???. I think there's been quite a bit of discussion the pros & cons of various boxblades, in addition to whatever other responses you get here. Good luck with your decision.

If you're interested in a good boxblade at a good price that still comes in JD green check out First Choice and Midwest. I have a 5' FC model that's served me very well and has been well worth the money. I think I paid around $265 for my 60" model and it has been a real workhorse for me. It's probably about paid for itself just from me using it for tending my drive rather than paying to have new gravel delivered.

My box blade was actually made for First Choice to design spec's provided by Integrated Engineering by Midwest. Mine came with a nice JD green powder coat finish to match my tractor. Don't let the various players involved concern you. The Frontier equipment Deere dealers sell isn't made by Deere, either. Their finish mowers, for example, are Woods products painted green with a Frontier label. The last page of the Frontier mower manual is your manufacturer's warranty-from Woods. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Do yourself a favor and check out First Choice and Midwest. I think you'll be impressed. I was and still am. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Here is a link to a thread about mine you might want to check out. there are some good pictures of the fit and finish that you might enjoy seeing.

Good luck with whatever you decide. I hope this helps. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The First Choice website doesn't show box blades. Are they not producing them any longer? None of the equipment appears to be available in a green color either. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Hey, Bender, do you really have I-Link? That's Firewire from Sony... So Like do you feed video back to the house or something..

First choice buys from a number of vendors, and used to sell MidWest. That is over, and you can now buy midwest stuff direct from TCC or from Carter, Sweet or (maybe) Corriher. All are regulars on TBN, and easy to deal with.

I really like the looks of MidWest, and think Jim McCuan is a class act. I like the powder coat and all the fit and finish. If you go with them, it might really make sense to combine a couple pieces as it can really help on shipping.

Yes, I do have I-link but now the tractor is I-match!

The website still shows both the box blade and the spike aerator in the revolving pictures, but neither are listed as items available. Obviously something has changed.
