Exactly my point. The General contractor I work for sometimes employs that very same scheme.

We buy disposable equipment.. depreciate it immediatly.. use it for the job, and then liquidate it. If it brakes after the first job.. it was cheaper than the upkeep for a more expensive model costed out over time.

As you point out the low cost. For instance.. I bought an old ford 8N to play with.. same price 3k... I fell pretty confident that if I had that 3k$ chineese tractor sitting side by side and worked both of them.. the 8n would fail first.. eventually.. and I would get more lifetime work out of the disposable tractor than the used 8n.. for the same investment. On the other hand.. I doubt that chineese one will be around in 52 years, and still doing usable work...like my 8N is /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I feel the same way about mowers.. and the company I work for does too.... buy cheap.. often. Have a new one every year.. cheaper than having an expensive one that is years old before you repalce it.. etc.

( That perspective occurs to me, too. Kinda' like looking at a tracor as almost "disposable" if they are that cheap. Up in the Great White North or Alaska, some developers literally drop a piece of equipment into a remote area with no intention of ever bringing it back out. I guess if I wanted to clear some land up there that might be an option. Worst case scenario is that you need to spend another $3 grand and drop another tractor in. Heck, for $3 grand each you could go through a few of those over 10-15 years and still be ahead of the game. As long as the same thing didn't break on each one, you could cannibalize for parts.

Yup. I have always been told that the brand of ZTR or walk-behind mower used by a commercial operator may not be the best buy for an average land owner. The savvy landscapers buy new units that are low cost, cut well, and will require virtually no maintenance except blade sharpening, oil, air filters, and fuel filters for 1,500, or so, hours of service. They fully depreciate the business expense and buy new units every two seasons, three seasons at the max. This is why many of those units have sealed spindle bearings and run gas engines, versus the diesel and greasable zerks that you or I might look for. I'm sure not all landscapers an lawn companies manage their equipment this way, but it makes business sense to me.

Hey, Sounguy, good point, but the Deere is a 32 Hp. So it sure isn't overpriced compared to the Nortrac...

Oh, and t is significantly smaller displacement, as I remember, we COULD factor fuel economy in here....

Yup.. I was guessing on model numbers when i looked up specs and got it wrong.. honest mistake.. that is why I dropped it. Deffinately a better deal on the deere at the same price, etc. no questions asked.

The 2210 I believe uses a Tuff-Torq front axle, rear transaxle, and HST. Tuff-Torq is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Kanzaki Kokyukoki Manufacturing Company Limited and the Yanmar Diesel Engine Co.

And Tuff-Torq is located, oddly enough, in Tennessee.

Ok guys i know this one the 2000's are built in the usa i believe (peckins?) sc or was as of last season they may make the same tractor in more than one location and ship globaly depending on plant schedule etc. JD has a branch of enterprizes that specialize in certian areas say transmissions, engines etc in low volume small tractor or other related uses especialy in CCE division. They have many long winded company's that are jointly owned example 50% yanmar and 40% JD and other 10% being owned by the "branch company" which could be transmission or some other part to be shipped globaly to any # of suppliers or vendors.

Tuff torq supplys many trans for the lawnmowers and other JD branded products.

Kawasaki, Tuff torq, John Deere CCE, Bush hog, Mahle and many other companys are located in the north eastern area of TN its in the major intersection of 40 and 81. The other hot bed for many industrys is located in NC/SC and upper parts of georgia, alabama also.

Does John Deere actually own part of Yamnar? I did not know that if it is so.

As far as I know, NO. There is know mention of it in either's web site.

No they don't own any part of Yanmar only the joint company's they have joint "interest" groups and pacts to buy and sell componets and services etc.. A long running relationship.

Just like pilot having mc donald's in there truckstops pilot don't own any part of mc donald's but agreed to give them spot in there stores in a special intrest group pact.
