I aquired a basket case corn planter which I belive is a 1440. It closely matches a machine on ebay with 80 unit planters on it. It's similar to this: JOHN DEERE 1440 4 ROW 30" ROW NO TILL PLANTER FOOD PLOT - eBay (item 390179504402 end time May-05-10 18:26:34 PDT)
Only mine has a dry fertilizer attachment that it driven by a hydraulic pump.
I've found that three out of the four aluminum "covers" that go on the side of the planter units are shot. Someone stored it with corn leftover and it's eaten away at the aluminum. two of the units need the fingers replaced as well.
Are parts still readily available for these 80 unit planters? or do I need to try and salvage 1 of the "covers" and just cut this thing down to a two row?
I'd like to keep it a 4 row if possible, and wouldn't mind spending 3-400 dollars to get it going again.
where could a feller find parts besides a JD dealer?
