The replies are as expected and it makes sense to buy quality and look after what you bought. I have the ability to do just that and also know from experience that the Kawasaki air cooled engine is robust and if maintained lasts.

With no JD dealers and no Kubota dealers in town I am left searching out of my area and that has problems with transportation and parts.

A Kubota dealer has 2 B6200 DT and HST 15 HP tractors at $4750 for the DT and $7300 for the HST, both with 5' mower decks. It seems the dealer will let them sit until they get their asking price. They are 1985 models. Finding any history is a problem, and I know from experience a known history is worth so much in estimating the shape of a machine.

Question...can a snow blade to push snow be added and how hard is steering a manual shift and no power steering on a 2000 lb tractor on and within a small hill prone town lot?

Thank you for the advice and suggestions. I have a contact wanting me to buy his 12 year old Simplicity gas B & S with 48" deck , blade and snow blower. The purchase requires a truck rental to deliver, and the total price is around $5500 in Canada plus delivery.

Is Simplicity a quality machine, every one selling one wants a high price, would simplicity compare to JD, Yanmar, Kubota in lifespan? The Briggs & Stratton motor is air cooled, 2 cylinder, oil pressure lubed.

Can someone compare gear to hydrostatic transmissions and is there an indication of what hydrostatic make is better. Are they gear pumps, vane, or piston pumps?

Again thank you for educating me. I have repaired transmissions, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics and I am a multi tradesman with close to 50 years of trades experience. I know good design from not so good, but I do not know the many differences in the many types of lawn and garden tractors; but although I may be able to fix them I really want to spend time on them than under them.

As I see it prime would be JD,Yanmar, Kubota not in any order, the not so prime is what I must learn about. I wait for my lessons.

I've had a number of "gear" lawn/garden tractors, but I would never go back to gear shift jobs. Operation is so much easier with a hydrostatic drive, never having to worry about clutching or throttle adjustments. Just push down on the pedal and away you go.

Unfortunately, a hydrostatic drive, sucks up a portion of the tractors available HP, where as a gear driven model doesn't as I understand it. To be honest, Ive now had 3 or 4 hydro models, and really never noticed any problem, or lack of power, but I have noticed how much nicer they are to drive.

As far as how they work, I have no idea, and I really have no intention of ever taking one apart.

I have a x595, bought it in 2001. With a 54" mower deck and a 54" blade for moving snow. Living in Wis, I have weights and studded 2-link chains on the rears, and thus have no problem plowing 6-10" snow, even up a steep driveway. Have the HDAP (?) tires, which are good for traction but in wet/muddy conditions they load up with dirt.
Until last year, I had zero problems. Only regular service. However, now the engine is leaking oil when it gets hot under heavy load. Dealer says it could be $700-800 to fix, but leaving it alone is not a problem -- the leak isn't heavy -- haven't had to top off the oil at all.
One problem is the layout of the radiator -- it sits behind the engine, practically under the dashboard. Result is overheating from debris (cut grass, leaves, etc) which gets kicked up the mower and is sucked up and clogs the screens. Needs frequent checking to keep the screens clear.
Would I recommend it for regular mowing? Absolutely. I also have the 3-pt hitch but rarely use it -- lifting power is minimal. Buying it was a waste of money.

I would think the x595 would have about the same 3PH as the x749 and I can easily lift a 400lb implement such as my landplane grader with my 180 lb helper standing on it in the center. No problem with a 60" Howard rotavator or any other reasonable sized attachment.

I've been pushing snow for 10+ years with mine using a front blade with chains and weights. The thought of only 2WD never enters my mind. Before the 455, it was 10 years with a JD 318, and 10 years before that a Bolens G-14, and 10 years before that I was a city dweller. :)
Wow that's funny, I started with a Bolens G10 then a JD318 then a JD445 then a JD4110 which I still own. It plows so nice in 4wd..with no chains either!
