the same thing happened to me,took straight pin and cleaned out fuel cap vent hole and that took care of the problem.
try pushing a pin or needle thru the vent on top of the gas cap. sometimes it gets blocked and won't feed fuel.

RetiredCarGuy: I've already eliminated the fuel cap vent as a cause. Also replace both ignition coils, as I found I had no spark at one plug. You have an interesting suggestion re. heating components on the circuit board that control ignition. Since I've already bought a new JD ign. sw./circuit board assembly, I'm going to install it shortly. I will advise this forum of the outcome. Meanwhile, thanks for your suggestions.

Thanks, and EASY on the heat. Components overheat and fail, or much worse, very easily.

You may want to look more into the ignition delay relay module there like 20 bucks and are common problems on 345 series and 425 and 445.

I bet you have junk in the carb that occasionally gets into the jet. If you haven't cleaned the carburetor in a while, I'd try that. You can do a carb kit, but it's probably not necessary.

Yes, a clean fuel supply and system can really help!
Crud blocks fuel flow and water doesn't burn, at least in tractor motors.

I know you have already checked your fuel system, and I know you took care of the gas cap..

Sometimes these kaw engines like to stick an intake valve.. Sometimes the only time anyone figures it out is when it gets so bad the rocker arm falls off...

If an intake is sticking, there is so much blowback into the manifold the other cylinder doesn't stand a chance of running either..

Sometimes when you have eliminated everything as you seem to be trying to do here,, keep this in mind as a possible reason...

If you get to the point of thinking this is the problem, or anyone else reading this thinks this rings a bell on their problem,,,, then start off mixing 4 ounces of marvel oil per gallon of gasoline.. This will stop the sticking immediately and begin to clean valves and combustion chambers..

It will not hurt to do this anyway as you begin to test.. If a valve is not the problem, the oil will not hurt anything..

Pull the tube that feeds the carburator out of the fuel tank. On the end theres a little screen. Clean the crud off the screen and you will be back in business.

I have the exact same problem. What was the ultimate answer that fixed it? THX
