I know I'm a Kubota guy posting on the JD forum but I'm jealous. Gemplers just came out with the new spring catalog and in the new items insert there it was, the ultimate John Deere Tool Box.
Seems like JD always has the advantage in tractor accessories. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Deere is just very marketing savvy...like Harley-Davidson. Now to make you more jealous, at the National Farm Machinery Show last month Deere was showing their new John Deere-branded aluminum truck tool boxes. You know the kind...the aluminum, diamond-plate box that's behind the rear window of most every pickup truck on the road.
After close inspection, these boxes look to be made by DeeZee, the same company that sells to Tractor Supply.
Smart marketing.

Hmm... makes me wonder when we'll see John Deere stickers for our shotgun barrels!

Nice markup for the green paint....I have three of those tool boxes with Craftsman red and charcoal colors and they set me back $15-$20 each.

Please let me have the parts numbers from Sears. I could find nothing in the $15 to $20 range.DPR

I have this JD toolbox and it is much more than the $20 ones. The closest one that I have seen in quality is from Snap-On that sells for $135. There is a very cheap version that the Farm & Fleet stores and Menards sells that is $40. It is not the quality of this one by a longshot.

Like the others said.. JD is a marketing fiend. Anything that they can license out or sell their picture to be affixed to.. they do.

I wonder if Deere is actively seeking these products, or just licensing them as they come to Deere with the ideas. Whatever, they obvoiusly are marketable.

A few years ago, I was looking at the Deere sheets and pillowcases, and talked to a friend who was a manager of a large store. He said they carried a Deere line of such goods as well as had access to a "red" line. The Deere sold off the shelves like hotcakes, while the red line just didn't move. Since that time, seems there has been an upsurge and every craft store has a Green line of something or other, with everything from "soup to nuts". I suspect it might have to do with years and years of quality that is paying off in non-deere country. I don't know that, but I like the color myself for that reason.

(I also believe that other competitors have quality as well). /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

The people will go to John Deere rather than John Deere going to them.John Deere Green and Yellow is like Coca Cola merchandise, people like it. I was in a Cracker Barrel restaraunt gift shop and they have a whole corner of JD merchandise along with other nostalgic items.
They say the John Deere logo/green and yellow is as popular as Coca Cola logo.

I saw that one and like it, but the "real" toolbox is my favorite

"Please let me have the part number from Sears..."

Okay, back about 2001 I bought several 3-drawer chests from Sears, they were selling model #65337 for $22 and I got a 10% Craftsman Club discount on top of that. The current catalog does not show that model number.

You got a deal. the 2003-2004 Craftsman Power and Hand Tools Catalog lists the 65337 for one that Midnight for $54.99 and a model for $49.99.

I found it on page 19 in the catalog. I may pick one up next time I get to Sears. I sure would for the price you paid.

We just sold one of those. That same model. They are really nice. I have seen that cheaper green toolbox also and it's pretty nice too. At school the cool thing to do is to wear JD clothes like hats and shirts. A fair amount of high school kids wear that stuff but I'm the only one who really owns a Deere. Sometimes we will get 20 year olds who come into the store to just buy a green old school JD hat. It amazes me!

Strange but true...I saw a $4, dorky, old-school JD "trucker" hat at Nordstrom's for $25! That's marketing at its best.
Fleece the young hipsters, just because Ashton Kutcher happens to wear one in a Punk'd episode and everyone goes ape. If these hipsters had any sense they would go to their local Deere store, buy six hats for the price of one. That way all of the hipster's friends could be poseurs too!

I will agree that John Deere IS a marketing machine. As the owner of a Harley, John Deere has to be right there with Harley as a marketing powerhouse. It seems you can get just about anything with John Deere on it.

While I have to agree, JD has almost as strong of an image as HD. How many people do you know who have JD tattoos?

Just a phase with the teens is all. About 10 years ago, I believe Carhartt stuff was all the rage. Bad part was how the prices were driven up by people who had no intention of doing any "work"!! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
