Jd gt245. Knocking

Hi all. I just rebuilt the carb of my gt245, took deck off for service and when I ran it to test the carb (no deck) there is an occasional knock and it is hard to determine where it is coming from. It didn't do it before and I am wondering without any tension from the mowing belt that maybe some electric clutch noise is finding its way up through the machine. Anyone else experience this? I will be reinstalling the deck tomorrow to test it,just wanted to see if this is common....tractor seems to operate just fine...

It could be a number of things. You could have a drive belt idler going out (easy to replace if one is). The PTO clutch may have some slop in it and need adjusting (air gap). Is the sound with the PTO switch on, or just with the tractor running but PTO off? Could be some debris up under the frame that came loose and shifted when you removed the deck, and now it is making occasional contact with the drive belt. Hard to say without being there in person.

I don't know what you've got going on there, but just wanted to say that my GT235e (little brother to your GT245) doesn't do that with the deck removed.
