JD Imatch vs. Land Pride QH15-01

Did you have to modify some of your implements because you dont have the adjustable hook?

VP

Yes I did.
Now that it is fixed and welded in place it will fit properly from now on. With all the implements fitting the same there is no need to adjust anything. If you have to stop and adjust the top link that takes away from being "quick".

I have plenty of experience fighting to hook up 3PH implements in years gone by, now I back under them pick them up, latch the hitch and on some raise a kickstand or hook up the pto. No need to fit the hitch to an implement though.

I first bought a JD IMatch and really liked how easy it was to use, but traded it for a Land Pride Quick Hitch, thinking the adjustable toplink would be handier than modifying my IMCO brush mower (older CAT 1/not new specs) and Frontier 3PT Spreader (CAT 0/1). Both the JD and Land Pride are very well built, but the Land Pride might be slightly beefier, but I doubt anyone could hurt the JD.

But I think I'd have been smarter to just modify both attachments, which is what I'm going to do anyway just because it will save time, which was the point of the quick hitch in the first place. And I doubt I'll ever buy any attachments in the future that aren't already quick hitch compatible.

I am confused by the CAT 1 definition. What is CAT 0/1?

Thanks

VP

I think everyone has t decide whether they wan't to commit to the quick hitch, it is a personal choice. I found it much simpler to commit to the IMatch quick hitch then make everything compatible with it. Now when I have laborers and have to work fast I don't have to worry about it.

When using the IMatch it is best to commit to the proper bushings needed depending on the implement configuration. If a person doesn't wan't to do that then IMatch isn't for you, you can continue to fight and adjust till you get tired of it. Been there done that.

VP, the CAT 0/1 attachments are designed for both CAT 1 and CAT 0. CAT 0 is designed for smaller tractors (think JD 400 series, and use smaller lower link pins and smaller dimensions between the lower link pins (off the top of my head, it may be 22 1/2 inches for CAT 0 vs 26 1/2 inches for CAT 1), and a shorter distance from the lower link pins to the top link (again from poor memory, I believe it is 12 inches for CAT 0 vs 15 inches for quick hitch compatible CAT 1).

So as long as I go with modern CAT1 implements I should be fine with the JD IMatch, Correct?

Yes, if the implement is quick hitch compatible. Not all modern CAT 1 implements are built to ASAE (agricultrual engineers standards) CAT 1 quick hitch specs, so you'll need to be sure that the attachment you are considering is designed to those specs. Just don't assume-check for sure.

You might want to search for one of the older threads on this subject which I believe had more detail on this subject.

It's really nice to be able to attach and detach implements quickly. I used mine this weekend to rototill my neighbor's garden, and he was amazed at how simple it works. Pretty sweet-only had to get off to hook up the PTO shaft, so now I'm starting to think about the JD version that also does that. Good grief, I'm getting lazy or smarter, but I suspect the former is most likely the case.....You'll enjoy the convience and wonder how you got along without it. Good luck.
