My brother went to a big sox store and bought a Yardman 18 hp lawn tractor -- $900. I bought a White 18 hp lawn tractor -- $1800. There is no comparison -- his is broken all the time.

The belt shrouds on the mower deck cracked within 5 years, bolts and screws drop off mysteriously all the time, he has it in the shop at least once a year, some tires go flat a couple times a year, the seat sucks, the steering wheel sucks, no cup holder, it bounces around, its noisy, the metal is so thin you can cut yourself on the edges, the hood has to be wiggled to close, the choke pull is like a plastic fork waiting to snap, and the deck seems to creep out of level throughout the season.

The White is like driving a Lexus with a mower deck under it. Sure its double, but its still only $900 -- and how many will you buy?

mffarmall, I second the statement that you get what you pay for. I have a JD LT180 and it has never had any problems and I use it to also push sand around and clear a wash with a dozer blade. The neighbor has a MTD that spends more time on blocks being repaired that it does mowing. Currently, his front wheel fell off, now it's a 3 legged dog. Just another opinion.

I bought an LT133 in 1999. I have put a new belt on it and replaced a headlight bulb-that's it) /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Have regularly mowed part of my place which is really pasture and not meant for a yard mower. My previous rider was a murray bought at walmart. Mowed much less with it and it went belly up long ago. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

My steer tires are bigger than many drive tires on the throw away machines...

I have yet to change a belt or a bearing on my 1997 455. The only issue I have had was maintenance neglect on the fuel filter, and I replaced the battery...
