If my memory is correct the lt160 does not have an electric pto for the blades, maybe I'm wrong .But if it is a lever which moves an idler pulley that tightens the blade/deck belt. Many times I have found that the engagement lever will wear the insulation off of ,or pinch wires when engaged /disengaged and ground out causing the engine to die. You may have found your problem with the wire that you already taped up. Check all of the wiring in the area and I think you will find your problem.
