JD LT180

I've received a quote of $3,399 for a LT180 with 48" mower. According to JD's website this is the suggested retail; should one be able to do better? Thanks!

Just my personal experiance but I have never paid list for any of the JD lawn tractors (3) I have purchassed over the years including the 4110.

For what it's worth, I believe that Home Depot will be selling the JD 100 Series beginning in 2003. Although I am not advocating a purchase there, I would suspect that the market will suddenly become a bit more competitive when the inventory arrives. You might discover it profitable to delay your purchase a bit.

Thanks for your response. I had just come across the "news" release indicating the John Deere/Home Depot arrangement a few minutes ago and wondered the same thing. Or will they "cheapen" them to compete with other mass marketed tractors? I noticed that you own a Kubota BX1800. How do you like it? I'm looking at used tractors as well and just came across a G1800 for about $2800, though I don't know all of the details (hours, age, etc) yet? Do you have any opinion on the G1800?

The units to be sold by the Home Depot will be a lower price point lawn tractor called the L100 series, not LT series. You will not find the 17 HP Kawasaki in the L100 line. You will also find price parity between the HD and Deere dealers. Remember your dealer will probably provide: free setup and delivery and knowledgeable sales and service staff, something you will not find at HD, why pay the same price plus a "curb side delivery fee" rather than a good old fashioned tractor delivery with thorough instructions by a JD Dealer!!. Don't forget the small business when making your choice: do you want a dealer or just the "Big Box" retailer.
Gentlemen and Ladies, Price is not everything.

You couldn't have said that better. I live in a fairly small community and always give the local stores a chance to compete with the big boys. They will usually come pretty close and I am not going to drive 40 miles just to save a few bucks. Keep the local guys around you will never know when you need them. OOPS sorry this was suppose to be about the LT 180.

I don't know that I can say anything about the BX1800 that hasn't been repeated ad nauseum by others on this site. It's a great piece of machinery! I must reluctantly admit that, for my purposes, it represents extreme overkill. I use it for cutting around one acre of grass and also hauling "stuff" around on my property. I love it and it has be absolutely trouble-free.
As to your question on the G1800. I have seen it but never used it. I suspect that the G1800 would actually be the more cost effective machine for my needs as it seems to offer the same Kubota quality but with a bit more of a lawn and garden tractor focus. All in all, if I had it to do all over again, I would still purchase either the Kubota BX series or the JD X5XX series. For me the single best feature on these machines is the 4-wheel drive.
