Oh yeh, I forgot to mention the sales tax. That is 7% in my county in upstate NY. Certainly not chump change.

Sounds like I'm getting a good deal on new JD 4320. I Posted this a few minutes ago to get some opinions before reading this thread.

"Hello to all. I'm looking to buy a new JD 4320 eHydro open station with R4 tires and am looking for opinions on what would be a good/fair deal. I've checked with one dealer and he is giving 12% off list plus $1000 rebate frm JD plus $500 off if I take the 4320 he has had on his lot for 3 mos. Considering everything, it amounts to 17.25% off list if I take the tractor he has. Is this a good deal?? Thanks for your opinion."

If I had a dealer try and charge freight and set-up, I would walk out. Any discounts should be taken off the list price. I also make the dealer pick up the installation cost of any options I want to add. I have always been pretty good at making the deal with the options I want. If there are things I want to add then I generally get them added at dealer cost. The dealer always installs anything add-ons at no charge as part of the deal.

The last time a dealer wanted extra charges is when I was about to write the check for a new Rhino. At the last second he tried to hit me with freight and set-up fee. I walked out of the door and went to the John Deere dealer for a new Gator. He actually did me a favor because the Gator is so much better built than the Rhino. We didn't even talk about freight and set-up fee as that is covered in their list price. I still got a substantial discount, many options added at dealer cost and no installation fee for those parts. It was the same when I bought my 3320.

I would tell your dealer to take a hike. Any John Deere dealer in Central IL would not have any business if they charged freight and set-up.

And where did you get the idea that freight and set-up are "covered" in John Deere's list pricing?

Actually, Deere's online build/price tool does say (in the fine print) that the price does not include all that extra stuff. However, the dealer trying to "slip" that stuff in at the last second burns my butt to. I always make it clear to the salesman (cars, tractors or whatever) that I'm looking for an out-the-door price, period. I they want to bury that stuff in the price, fine. But a deals a deal. I'll walk out too if they try to nickle and dime me at the last minute.

When I said the freight and set-up was covered in the list price I suppose I was referring to past history. There historically has not been been an additional charge for freight and set-up at any major farm equipment dealership around here. The only places that try and stick you are the motorcycle dealerships (Rhino, some Polaris, Arctic Cat) that try and increase their profit margin. John Deere, Case IH, etc. pretty much will always absorb that cost and put it in the base price of their machine. I have noticed that most Polaris and Arctic Cat dealers who also operate from a farm machinery dealership do not have the freight and set-up as an additional charge. If they are a motorcycle dealer, they charge. I don't know how they stay in business but I think a lot of people buy their utility vehicles for play and do not shop around.

Probably too late to help but my experience in buying a new 3320/cab, 300cx loader and 72" MMM was that I could get 16% off the all-in price (including freight). Got the same quote from three different Western New York JD dealers. They (all three) backed down on "set up" charges when I challenged them.

Not sure if this will help either but I got my 3320 with P/R 300CX FEL, R4'S AND an MX5 out the door for 21 grand, not sure if it was a great deal but it was lower than MSRP, unfortunately I only got to put about 4 hours on her before I had to come back Iraq, but hey got to pay for her somehow.
