Hey there! It's the ongoing saga of my MX8 again. From the last time, God blessed as Heritage Tractor realized I was still under warranty by just a month or so. All fixed for FREE! Unbelievable, right? But still, TRUE. In case you never saw THAT post, both gearboxes had bottom seal failure and locked up. The repair was over $7k.
Next chapter! So first time I go to use it on sericea lespedezia this season, I check everything except blades, as I'd sharpened before and getting under this thing is a painful task. Gear oil seems a little high on right side, but what to do? Put dipstick cap back on. I mowed maybe 3 acres. Gear oil is leaking out of cap on right. I start getting metal impacts, but only at certain RPM. Suddenly, a huge bolt shears and one blade flies out. I'm done.
My truck is in the shop, so it will be awhile to be able to take it in. Loading/unloading and transporting the MX8 by itself on my gooseneck is no fun. I'm thinking about trying to fix/replace the blades on my own. Anybody ever stand one of these up vertical to work on the belly? How did you do it? Is this a difficult repair, should I wait to take it in? The sericea isn't waiting.
