I was quoted: Mahindra 4530 $18,880
John Deere 5105 $23,650
Kubota M4900 $24,455

No offense meant by this, but this is a perfect example of what can (and has) created ill feelings on TBN.

Your previous post indicted that the Mahindra was $6000 cheaper than the comparable JD and Kubota, then you mentioned the models you were looking at.

The Mahindra model equivalent to the JD 5105 (50 hp) and the Kubota M4900 (54 hp) is not (IMHO) the 4530 (42 hp), rather it's the 5500 (55 hp). Comparing two tractors with 50 and 54 hp with one that has 42 is not an apples to apples comparison.

The 5500 still might be cheaper than the 5105 and the M4900, but not $6,000 cheaper.

I do apologize for starting this Mahindra thing. Sense there's been some comparison's made and a few other coments made, including by the original poster, I'll add a little.

The best price on a 5500 4WD w FEL/QA that I found was $20,745 delivered ~55 miles.

In my very unprofessional yet researched opinion, (NO OFFENSE intended here).... I do not believe you can completely compare a 5500 with a 5105 or a 4900... based on the specs the 5500 weighs more than either, lifts more than either, bigger tires than either, longer warranty than either, and is priced at least a few thousand less than either. It's still not exactly apples to apples. The only downside I've heard thus far is resale value... but I don't know many who have tried to resale them. From what I could gather, once they get them they don't want to get rid of them. If resale value is important to you then maybe Mahindra is not the one. Personally I'm keeping my tractor and hopefully my grand yougens will get to enjoy using it... by then maybe it will have as good a resale value as the others. If I'm not mistaken (which I could very well be), didn't Mahindra manufacture more tractors in the US last year than any other manufacturer? If you really investigate this company, they are indeed impressive, again IMO.

I do realize this does not necessarily make it the best tractor on the market... it was just the best tractor for me.

Last I knew, the 5105 had a John Deere engine, not Yanmar. I know little about Kubota, but I do know that my brother's 5105 was at least assembled in the USA. Georgia, if I am not mistaken. At least SOME of his money stayed here. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Make sure you are comparing apples to apples. The LA1002 Loader lifts 2200lbs at bucket center . The Mahinda will lift 3150lbs at the pivot pin . There is normaly a 30% drop when you move those 500mm forward. So infact, the Kubota loader does lift more than the Mahinda does. There are probably other instances of this, but its 5:15 and time for me to go home :).

From most accepted accounts, JD, NH, and Kubota made up over 90% of the tractors sold. I think somebody is feeding you bad information. I think you can look it up, and it seems undisputed, that Mahindra is the #4 manufacturer in the world; behind NH, Kubota, and JD.

Neil, as I am in a time zone behind you, it's not yet 5pm so I'll pick up the ball and continue your post (if you don't mind too much).

First, you say there is a 30% drop in the capacity from the PIVOT POINT to the BUCKET CENTER but I'm not sure how correct you are. I did a little study of this very thing a while back, what I found was that on some brands the drop was actually more often a 35% decrease in capacity at the bucket center, so I would not trust any tractor that measured at the pivot points.

Further, in the same light, but on the other end of the tractor, some brands (and Mahindra is one of those) rate their 3pt hitch at the BALL EYES instead of the more commonly accepted measurement of 24" behind the ball eyes. Figure a 30% drop in capacity at 24" back, so that is another measurement that must be carefully looked at. Now I'm not saying the tractor is bad, I'm just pointing out the capacity ratings for some brands are things that must be VERY CAREFULLY researched.

Where do you find how they are rated? I see Kubota states it in their specs but JD and Mahindra don't.

If this is the case... then I admittedly stand corrected.

I'll update any corrections that are verifiable.
