JD ; PTO tiller will cost me $3000 ?????

Seems expensive to me. I bought a JD680 80" "Heavy Duty" tiller for $3300 delivered and that included sales tax. It is for my 4710 and would be too big for a X595.

I've got a Howse. My nieghbors' got a JD. My neighbor borrows mine. I paid ~1K. I don't know how much he paid.

The Howse is heaver (750 lbs @ 54") and the steel thicker. It has an axle that can be reversed to throw dirt backward or forward.

If Howse does one thing right, it is making good tillers.

OK this may be a silly question, but does that JD have a 3pt hitch? And what method is used to power the tiller?

yes, the X595 diesel 4wd has an optional limited 3 point and PTO. It is comparable perhaps to the Simplicity Legacy XL in that it has extremely limited loader capacity. I'm not sure which tiller he was quoting but might have included the cost of the 3 point hitch itself.

I have read a lot of high implement prices for the X series - since you have to add options to get the PTO and 3pt, you are already blowing money before you even buy the tiller. If it is a true Cat 1 hitch, you should be able to get a 42 or 48" tiller from anyone - cheaper.

I looked up that tractor on the JD website. I'm thinking the entire 3pt assembly is optional, so that would dramatically increase the price of the tiller. Because to use the tiller, which may or may not be reasonably priced, you have to add the 3pt.

What would concern me most about that tractor is the ground clearance for use with a tiller. If you are tilling a garden with that machine, I'd suggest you get some tire chains as well becuase that tractor does not look like something that would be good in the dirt.

I'm almost certain that the JD 500 series is their new and improved version of the 400 series (425, 445, 455). These are Cat. 0, and all Cat. 0 attachments I've seen are sky high in price. A product of supply and demand I believe.

!!!!!

Well .. how's this .. I have a JD 18hp mower. One of the attachements you can tack on is a 42" front mounted 2 stage snow thrower - this is a belt drive unit from the MID PTO on this 2WD HD mower ... my local JD says the thrower, bracket kit and a pair of chains and weights can be had for 2,291.

This is a NO HYRO, PURE MECHANICAL snow thrower! Shoveling 1100 feet of drive is better for my cardiology!
