I talked to my JD dealer abut cement ballast and he said in his experience, practically nobody uses cement. They just pile some rocks in there.

There is quite a few "nobody's" here then:D

Shot Gun what is the full JD retail on the front spacers and bolts?

$72 per spacer and $3.70 per bolt. Your dealer may charge you shipping if you MD those. You might want to try stock order. All CCE dealers have a daily stock order. So far it's worked out ok for us. It lowers the price to the consumer and you still get your parts in four business days for the day of order.

FYI - It took exactly 11 x 60# bags of cement.

I am gonna use sand bags.

That should be enough weight to keep your 2520 sufficiently anchored to the flat part of the world!

You're gonna wish for a quick-hitch, now....

Attaching and unattaching that 1,200lbs will be an experience that you won't like duplicating more than necessary!

Best of luck with your new "green" machine!

When not in use, my ballast box sits on a dolly in the garage. To hook it up, I roll it close, attach the top link first and then adjust the length of the top link to inch the box in position for each lower link. Take about 2 minutes and no real effort.

I just filled my ballast box this weekend as well. I only fit 4.5 bags of portland in there, so I guess that's about 4.5 cubic feet, which makes sense. Not sure what the density of cured portland is, I'm guessing anywhere between 130 and 150 lb per cubic foot. So, I'm guessing, including the box itself, I'm at about 700 lb. I have no idea how you can get more weight than that in this thing using cement or concrete.

Are any of you lifting round bales on a spear with a 4x20 with a 400x?? I've got a ballast box filled with fine gravel (without the extension for right now) and fluid in my back tires. I don't want to make the BB permanently weigh 1000lbs with cement because I trailer it a fair bit. I'm going to use a spear on my 4720.

What are the heaviest bales any of you have gotten away with??? Can you get them on/off of the second row of a deck over gooseneck??

Thanks!!

-Jer.

I used sacrete--quickrete or whatever you want to call it in mine for my 2320. Don't have the tires filled. Seems to give me satisfactory traction when using the loader. Don't think the extension would be necessary, but then again have not tried one.
