Sick of arguing with friends and family about who's better. I grew up with JD that's why i have JD. Can they even be compared? what are your thoughts?

I've got a IH 2544 and it's a beast...that being said alot of parts are extremely hard to find and they are pricey because of it.....I think in the parts availability I think JD is better. :2cents:

I think its just a matter of personal preference. I know they all must have good tractors or they wouldn't be in business. I have a friend who says Oliver is the best tractor ever made. My Grandfather farmed with AC and my other Grandfather and my Dad liked IH. My Great Grandfather had Case. I have just always liked John Deere but I can't say they are any better then any of the other brands. The one thing I have noticed about all of them is they all have repair shops and they always seem to be busy. I rented a Case IH combine the last 2 years and I must say its not bad. If I was going to buy another one it would probably be green. Just my 2 cents.

Put me down for JD green. There's allot more JD dealers Case IH around me by far.

I bleed green!! Actually, as far as "old iron", I like them all, but much prefer JD as that is what I grew up on (literally).

Just remember if you see an old John Deere behind an old Farmall with a chain between them, he's pushing the Farmall!

Seriously guys, don't argue about it, each brand had some better models & some that weren't so good with "lemons" in both!

I suspect it was more the "dealers" in a given area than the quality of the equipment. As a kid I grew up JD green because they where by far the closest and best dealer around. Later in life we had Ford 5000 and 5600, these where both good dependable tractors. The White was the "Silver Lemon".

IH, Case, AC, MF never had a presence in our area because there was no local dealership. 40 miles away was the AC dealer and in that area you saw AC.

Where I live today I am not sure where the closest IH dealer is. New Holland, JD, AC, Kubota, MF are with in 20 miles and JD is the most common and NH the least common, again due to the dealership and JD having a complete product line not just tractors.

if you go back though the years there where times when one company had a leg up on the other in terms of what their products could do. Today, the differences are much smaller.

JD got my business with in house 0% and about 5k cheaper on the comparable model. Is it better? Define better.

I grew up on Green and Blue tractors, but Red combines are hard to beat.

G'day over here it is a similar thing, dealer presence has alot to do with it but also a good salesman. Years ago we were looking for a new tractor at home and had looked at/ inquired about at most of the dealers ( Red, Blue and Green) and while we were busy in the yard repairing an overhead water tank the Green salesman came in wanting to talk to dad about a chamberlain ( aussie built originally but bought out by JD). We were pretty busy as we had 2 contractors there and a crane and about 38c but this bloke was insistent that he would only take up 15 min of time, well after about 10 min of trying dad blew his top and told him to *&%^ off and never come back and that there would never be a green/yellow machine on the place and there never has been. We now run 3 IH, 1 Ford and 1 Belarus but after 20+ years still no green but have got one yellow a tr75 NH header:laughing:

In my opinion, the old JD stuff made in the USA is awefully tough to beat for service life, support and collectability. But, you are going to PAY for that as well.

The IH/Farmall stuff made here is less costly, very capable but yes, parts can be a tougher situation in some cases.

If you are comparing stuff from say '85 up, and looking at under 45 HP equipment, I write off JD because too much of the units in thaat market segment are simply up-priced Asian import stuff painted green. If I wanted an Asian tractor, I would buy one.

Orange is good, especially in the SCUT/CUT market, low initial cost and pretty reliable over the 10 year/1k hour window. But they are not engineered for heavy work, IMO.

for heavy work you need a heavy tractor and those are tough to come by in today's world. You are essentially looking at 45 PTO HP units and larger from JD, CHN, MF or Mahindra.
