There is one case, surely there are more that our members definately know of, no rumors please. Just curious...
and btw, I agree with you, operator accidents and stupidity are no excuse to sue the manufacturer. Just sort of pursuing a mythbusters type of thing here....

HELLO GUYS.... I'VE ALWAYS BEEN JUST A READER HERE BUT I DECIDED TO REGISTER AND POST ON THIS SUBJECT. JUST SO YOU KNOW I AM NOT A NEWCOMER TO TRACTORS . I HAVE OWNED,USED, FARMED ,WORKED ON AND SOLD TRACTORS FOR OVER 20 YEARS(MOSTLY DEERE).ALL THE TALK ABOUT GREY MARKET THIS AND THAT IS FOR THE MOST PART A BUNCH OF CRAP.GREY MARKET JOHN DEERE'S BEGAN WITH GERMAN MADE TRACTORS THAT MADE IT OVER IN THE 70'S AND YOU HEARD ALL THE U.S. DEALERS BAD MOUTHING THEM... WHY? NOT BECAUSE OF POOR QUALITY AND DIFFERENT ENGINEERING.. BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT MAKING MONEY ON THEM...PERIOD...JUST LIKE ALL THE OTHER MAKERS THEY BUILD STUFF WHERE EVER IS THE CHEAPEST. DO THE QUALITY CONTROLS GO AWAY.. NO.IF YOU WANT TO BELIEVE THE ONLY REASON U.S. DEERE DEALERS DO NOT WANT YOU TO BUY IMPORT DEERE IS FOR YOUR SAFETY, YOU ARE BEING FOOLED. ITS BOTTOM LINE...."GREEN" AND NOT J.DEERE GREEN.THERE IS NO PROFIT IN IT FOR THEM. I SAW ANOTHER GROUP QUESTION ABOUT INDIA MADE DEERE'S AND I READ SOME OUTLANDISH RESPONSES ABOUT THIS OR THAT BEING DIFFERENT. THEY ARE THE SAME TRACTOR BY THE SAME MAKER JUST MADE IN INDIA . NO DIFFERENCE IN QUAILITY.QUIT LETTING SCARE TACTICS BY BIG COMPANY PROPAGANDA STATEMENTS WORK IN CONTROLLING YOUR WALLET.....(how do you like me so far?...S.)

OK I agree there may be no difference in quality.

But whatever the reasons, the fact is, you can save a little getting a gray market tractor. All you give up is warranty, dealer support, and resale value.

A recent example would have saved about $750 on a $16000 package. I'll pass. My dealer is an honest business man. I think that, overall Deere is a straight forward company. I just don't see the advantage of doing an end run around them.

That is not entirely true regarding the same quality from different factories. My employer builds the same screw compressors for air conditioning chillers at three different plants. One was here in Syracuse, recently moved to Gorgia, another in France and the third is in China. The compressors all have the same design and quality standards regardless of manufacture location. The chineese built compressors have a signifcantly higher defect rate than the same machine built in either France or here in the USA. I would not at all be surprized if John Deere had the same issues with their machines. Maybe someday the chinese factory will build the best compressors, but they sure don't right now.
