JD1207 hay-bine HP needed?

I've used a 1207 for years cutting over 80 acres a year and its a darn good cutter. Drying time is faster and the fescue just looks better, longer stalks, and all the leaves and heads left in tact. The only thing it is kinda narrow at 7ft and we fertilized our fields so we have to go very slow since its so thick. We use either our mahindra 5010 50hp or of old john seeded 2010 with a little over 50 HP. We have some steep hills and rough terrain and I don't see how a 20 something HP tractor could handle it. We square bale with an old john seers 35 baler we have used for years and its around a 60 model I think but has never let us down. I do have a question, I noticed I was cutting a really thick field the other day and if I cut low tje machine would clog and skip big strips and if I set it to high it just basically laid the grass over. We just put on a new blade before this season cutting and it has done fine with 2 other fields I cut that weren't fertilized and really thin. We had used a 9ft massey Ferguson 925 for years but the pitman ARM and the rod it mounts to broke last fall so its out of commission but we never had a problem with it no matter how thick or thin the grass was. Granted like all mower conditioners you can't go fast at all or just leave strips or stubble. Is there some setting I need to change on tje 1207 so it will cut like the 925. One thing I don't like about the 1207 is the plastic rollers where as the 925 rollers were both steel and was good at crimping. Any advice would be appreciated. We will get the 925 fixed eventually but just been to busy and it tje peak of hay season. Oh and we do all square bales and haul it all on 20ft trailers to the barn with hired help of course.
