JD 2305
I love my 2305, but my biggest gripe so far about it is the piece of angle iron that rests on the left rear arm of the 3pt hitch that is used to lift the mmm. Seems like it's always slipping off (I know, improper adjustment)..

My question is, is there a reason/purpose this is a piece of angle iron versus a u-shape? Seems like if it was a u-shape it would stay on the 3pt arm and not slip off all the time. Has anyone welded anything onto the angle iron to keep the belly attachment lifter/guide from slipping off?

Thanks for any help/ideas..

I agree to a point. I have had issues with this as well. Whatever device you have in the 3 point hitch will determine the width and thus determine where the angle bracket hits the lift arm. You must keep this wide enough and adjusted tight enough with the 3 point arm adjustments to keep the angle lift piece contacting. The original spacer bar is the proper width. When using it, adjust the 3 point arms tight so they won't swing sideways. This will keep the angle piece on the lift arm.Personally, I keep a hitch bar in mine. I purchased one that wasn't wide enough, and then had to get one that was so the mower lift would work in conjunction with it.

I got one of those quick disconnect 3pt things too, but it doesn't work with all my attacments, mainly my tiller, so I don't use it in the spring. Also in the spring I do a lot of switching between implements (blade, tiller, boom) and it's a pain to have to adjust the arms each time. That's why I'm wondering if there's a reason why I couldn't weld a 'guide' on the outside of the angle iron so that the lift bracket won't slip off the 3pt arm.

I welded a 4 inch (L) 2 inch (W) on this arm the first time it happened, hasn't since. Luck

I've seen the Case IH SCUT''s have a U shaped piece opposed to JD's stupid 'L' shape... I was originally very disappointed with this when I bought my 2210. Seemed dumb to have to put that dam spacer bar in when there was no rear implement. My solution was to install a rear quick hitch and leave it on all the time.
