JD4110 or JD4100 with 61\" Loader Bucket

Anyone out there using a 61" bucket on a 4100 or a new 4110 that can offer up coments on how their machines handle this size bucket.

rp425,

I have a 61" on my JD4100 and it performs quite well. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Add a toothbar and it becomes a formidable tool. I have moved lots of material, dug out rocks, small trees, and stumps. Use the toothbar to grub and you can remove a lot of brush, multiflora rose, etc. quickly. Add a ballast box and you will be surprised at what you can lift.

Can you point me to the tooth bar you are ordering? Many a time I could have used them in recent weeks :-/

Thanks -- Chris

Either Carver or Canary can supply a toothbar. Got mine through Canary.

JMIII could you provide the detail for Canary...

Re: JD4110 or JD4100 with 61\" Loader Bucket

I have the 61" Bucket on my 4100. Generally it will not lift or break free a full bucket - the lift cylinders just get maxed out (for their cross section times the pressure available).

A smaller bucket would not lift any more material, but would be a little less frustrating to use since it would be more full more of the time and you wouldn't spend so much time trying to get every last lb of capacity out of the machine.

I kind of wish I had the 54" bucket instead. Thats what I originially intended to purchase, but the dealer only had the 61" in stock.

I agree that a tooth bar is very important with this combination. I have been working in some very hard clay, and without the tooth bar, productivity would be close to zero. Even just trying to remove material from a freshly excavated pile, moving the clay requires the tooth bar.

The other important thing to consider is traction. I have turf tires on my machine since its primary purpose is finish mowing. I added chains to the rear and wish I could put chains on the front when doing any serious FEL work.

800 lbs or so of 3-pt ballast along with 200-250 lbs of rear wheel weights are also critical to making this combination work.

Overall the combination works OK for the size and price of the machine.

Re: JD4110 or JD4100 with 61\" Loader Bucket

keeney,

I've had my 410 with a 61" bucket loaded pretty darn full of road millings, gravel, and soil. With the ballast box, I had lilttle trouble. It grunts a little, but has worked very well.

Re: JD4110 or JD4100 with 61\" Loader Bucket

Terry,

Maybe I should have the pressure checked on my hyd system. The engine doesn't bog down or anything, the loader just doesn't move up when it is too full.

When I say too full, I mean a fully heaping bucket full, including what the tooth bar picks up. I have not used it much without the tooth bar. Maybe the additional weight of the bar and the additional material picked up is just a bit too much.

I have 900lb of ballast on the 3pt and another 200lb of wheel weights (and another 1/8th ton in the seat) and I have never felt like its overloaded from a balance point of view.

keeney,

Hmmm... I can't remember really overloading the bucket, but that could be the issue. Heck, try varying the amounts to see where it begins to not work properly. You just might have a problem. I'll be moving some millings this weekend and I'll see if I can push it.

Re: JD4110 or JD4100 with 61\" Loader Bucket

I have a 4100 and have stalled out my bucket many times with heavy loads or snagging on a heavy root. If I recall the break-out on the 410 FEL is only 900lbs, that's not alot when you're moving heavy gravel etc.
