JD4300 manual sez 50/50 mix of antifreeze&H2O?

   / JD4300 manual sez 50/50 mix of antifreeze&H2O? #11
Here is reasoning behind 50/50 mix for hot or cold weather.
Antifreeze absorbs and holds heat. It will draw more heat from the engine but it is slower to release the heat when passing through the radiator. So a straight or high percentage of anitfreeze can cause engine overheat.

Water is just the opposite. It does not absorb heat as easily but is faster releasing it passing through the radiator. Straight water can result in engine overheat by not collecting enough heat from cylinder walls.

Mixing the 2 @ 50/50 gives the best of both worlds.

Remember that Diesel may require a special antifreeze. For water try and use only demineralized water.:)
Good point. Dry sleeve diesels can use either regular automotive anti-freeze or a SCA type. But wet sleeve diesels should only get a SCA type, to benefit from the anti-cavitation additive. There's a good selection nation wide, farm stores and truck stops. Brand will vary regionally. Around here the most readily available is Peak Fleet Charge 50/50. It already contains de-ionized water. Price varies between $11-$12/gallon.
