JD4500 Intake Heater Problems

I have a 4500 that I have some starting problems on. Can someone outline the procedure to check out the intake heater system?

The easiest way is to take the intake hose off at the engine, turn on the key and feel for heat.

On Edit: If it has the setup as my old 4310, you have to push in on the key in the on position to make it work.

That grid does get very hot.
