I'm looking for diesel powered finishing mower & was quoted a price of $9600.00 (taxes included) for a JD455. I'm new to the market & would like some feedback on this price & the experience people have had with this machine.

Bruce,

When I bought my JD425 I also looked at the 445 and the 455. I wish now I had gone with the 455. The gas models guzzle gas like there's no tomorrow. Other than this, I'm very happy with this JD series and think you'll be very pleased with the 455. They're cutting dynamos and have the power that will keep you working the machine all day long if need be. The price you've quoted sounds very good...I paid more in ignorance in 1995 for my 425 without doing competitive shopping. Hope this helps.

I think you will generally see some very competitive pricing on the JD 455 as well as the gasoline models because they are probably being phased out in favor of the new 4XX and5XX models. Although I presently own a Kubota BX1800, I visited my local JD dealer several weeks ago hoping to see the new 4XX and 5XX models. I was told that they were clearing out the 455's, etc. first. That would certainly suggest a bargain or two for someone interested.

My only complaint about my 445 is that it's not a 455 or 4100. It's the cadillac of mowers and large GTs. You'll be surprised how powerful and nimble it is.

If all you needed it for was finish mowing, I'd look at a JD 1435 Front Mower, or something similar. I've used one of the older models, I believe a F955, and for stricktly mowing, it was incredible.

Not knowing for sure what different things you want this for (now and in the future), but also look at the new x495 and x595 (4wd). I drove one the other day and they are quieter and bigger (and I am sure, a bit more expensive). I understand that there are very few old 400 series left around to buy. The new ones are VERY impressive. I am looking for any reasonable excuse to trade my 445 all wheel steer in for a new x485 all wheel steer. I understand that the new x series diesel does not yet come in the all wheel steer (of which I would not be without).

Bruce,
I have owned a jd455 for 3 seasons. I have a 60" mmm, and a 54" blade. I mow about 3 acres and plow a 400' driveway. I also use the tractor with a dump cart and have probably moved thousands of pounds of crushed stone and bolders. I am thinking real hard about a new 4115 with a fel and etc, but still would like to keep the 455 for mowing. I think you price is reasonable. good luck. dkane
