Just wondering if anyone out there knows or has any experience with the 5000 ten twenty or twenty-five series tractors. I have heard of some internal brake and hydraulic problems but don't know weather it is common or just isolated in this series.I would be very interested in hearing other members thoughts and opinions since Iam thinking of buying one of these tractors in MFWD and would rather hear from owner / operators than dealers who are trying to sell you the tractor.

The 5000 series back in the 90's had a parking problem. It would sometimes pop out of park if parked on a hill. Deere fixed it for free even after the warranty was up. The hydraulic problem had to do with the early pump on the 00 series. This was fixed with the 10 series. The 20 and now 25 series have had virtually no problems at all.

They are top heavy, I didn't find out personally but I heard the stories!
I use to work for the highway department and they had (I don't remember the exact model number) but it was a 5000 series JD from the early to mid 90's and it had been rolled twice. I as forunate enough not to have rolled it but I will say it is top heavy on a roadside!

I have a 5525 cab 4wd and love it. I have not had any problems, but I only have 40 hours on it so far. I have a friend with a 5520 and he has not had any issues either. I am not sure how many hours he has on it, but he has had it for a long time.

No serious issues yet. Only 205 hours thus far due to the summer drought. Just some minor annoyances with my 5420. My neighbor stated that the transmission issues in the 5000 series were corrected in the later 5010 series. Otherwise, I have not heard of any issues.

My FIL's 5420 is an awesome machine. His has the powerreverser, isolated platform, MFWD, FEL, dual rear remotes and a canopy. Oh how I wish it was a cab model.

It has only had standard maintenance lube changes. We just put a new battery in it.

I would highly recommend one. I can tell the higher quality seat and FEL joystick compared to my 4310 which isn't bad.

its the first time i entered here.

i ve one question, but this is about de 20 series, but smaller than the 5000 series. my dad has a 3120 (the old ones) jd tractor and has problems whem it is working with a 359 square baler.
at first, the engine has to be more rpm's to a perfect baler function.
second, it varies very much the engine revolutions with the punch that happens with a normal baler.
i can say this because, with a smaller and less powerfull tractor engine (Fiat 650), with the same square baler, the engine is workinh ok, why is that ?
