Hey Folks,

Ordered my new JD790/FEL last month and it is finally scheduled for delevery tomorrow. I'm so excited! I've been reading the posts daily and learning lots, especially about tractor safety. I would appreciate any input about operation, maintenance, safety and other words of wisdom. I haven't completed my user profile but will take care of that as soon as I can get a chance to work with "Green Thing". Sorry, I made a little icon and tried to use it as a signature but it ended up as an attachment. I'm trying! Help with adding a signature will also be appreciated.

Congratulations DZ from a fellow 790 owner. I've got 56 hours and still love it. One heck of a tractor for the money. I recently completed my 50 hour service with no issues. If it's coming today, you might end up with a touch of the "<font color=green>green flu</font color=green>". Better stay home from work /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I took the rest of the WEEK off! The tractor arrived about noon and I checked it over from FEL to TPH. First test was the new 6' Caroni grooming mower that I've had waiting for about 3 weeks. At the 5" level, it chopped 2 to 3 foot grass and weeds into small pieces. The ground is level and dry, but I still couldn't believe how fast I could wade through this stuff. Been using an old Kubota L185 2WD, so the JD just blew my mind. After about an hour, I ran out of grass to cut so hooked up my (also new and waiting) 5 foot box grader. I scooted more dirt in the next hour than I could in a day with the old Kubota with a scraper blade. Next test was working with the FEL. I'm now an expert with the loader. I have proof! The landscaper who was doing the final finish work on my daughter's adjoining 5 acres (around her just completed new house) came over and ask me if I would mind getting him a couple of buckets of soil to fill some low spots. I scooped up 3 buckets of loose dirt for him and didn't even dig gouge holes (like I did when practicing). I think he was impressed, at least with the tractor. He even asked if the loader bucket was "self-leveling". Almost speachless, I managed to say "I've been practicing". I've got 3 hours on the tractor and I already love it. Like you said before---lot of tractor for the money.

I'll check John's reference before I try my icon again.

Welcome aboard!! I, too, have a 790, with around 100 hours now. First got it just for mowing the lower field with a rotary cutter. Over the last year I've added a mid-mount finish mower, 3PH snowblower, a boxblade, a backblade (all 5'), a dirt scoop (poor man's dirt mover /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif), cultivator and drag. Man, the toys do add up! I hope to finally swing for an FEL next year - had to replace a chimney this year /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif. Which tires did you get? I got the turf's and have been very happy. Really needed the chains only when doing the box-scraper.

Thanks for the welcome. I took delivery of my 790 last Wednesday about noon. I am now an experienced operator with over 17 hours on the meter. It rained here Friday night and all day Saturday. Then I had to work all day on Sunday. The first 6 hours were mostly learning how to use the equipment, but the rest have been pulling a drag over about 8 acres of pasture.

My neighbors are big-time farmers and ran a big JD cultivator/packer over the pasture for me about 10 days ago. After that, I needed to get it "slicked" as they put it (level and ready for seeding). It turns out that the rain was just about right for the drag and I learned what "drag" really means. Several hours of back and forth at different angles makes you really appreciate your efforts when you look back at the field after a days work on a tractor. It was fun though! (don't know how to use the icons yet).

Now I'm looking forward to some more fence building in a few weeks and I have already learned what a "drag" that can be... even with the 790.
