JD990 Questions

I bought a 990 last July. I have about 200 hours on it now. Last week I swapped the tires to the wider stance (I just happend to see in the owners' manual that wider is recommended) I looks cooler anyway. I love the tractor , had a 790 befoe and upped to the 990. I don't have any complaints, but wish I knew about the 300cx loader, as so many others do. I have R1's as I do a lot of tilling and plowing the ground. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a 40 HP tractor. It's Great!

I could not find my posting until tonight. Thanks for all the feedback on the 990. My official purchase date was delayed a bit over the holidays. I did get in to the dealer this past weekend to do my credit application and specify a few items on the quote. I have also noticed that the dealer prices on the 990's are a bit high in the NE. I have been told that they are not a high margin tractor for the dealer so it reflects the slight discount. The Twenty series and the like have much higher discounts.

I have decided to get the 990, 300CX, 61" Bucket, Power Beyond, Loaded R4's, and Imatch for now. I will go for the backhoe and a few other items when I sell the Kubota.

I have to admit I did sit on the 3320 while I was at the dealer....she is pretty fancy for sure. But I still think the 990 is a brute.

Pics will come as soon as I get her in my hands!!!

I bought my 970 in '93, 1300 hrs later I dont regret it.

I would go back to the wider bucket, skip the imatch and get pallet forks

When it comes time for the BH look at woods and bradco too. as mentioned if you dig stumps use the smallest bucket avail.

If you are sure about this, go ahead and work out the price with the dealer now. If you do, you will get a better price than if you wait till later to negotiate.

Hi Jerry,

Normally I would do exactly what you suggested with purchasing up front. My problem is that I am building a log house while purchasing a tractor. I have to make sure I have reserves for the unplanned items on the house. The town I am building in has a deere or kubota in every "barn yard or door yard" as they are called up here. I have been offered the use of an implement here and there if I need it until I get my own. Good Neighbors!!

I don't guess I was clear about what I was saying from your response. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif What I was trying to say is that if you are going to get those implements at a later date: get a price worked out with the dealer or a percent off settled on now. That way it is like a larger package and the dealer will more than likely give you a better price. I didn't mean that you had to get the implements now, just work out the prices for later.

Ohhhhh I get it now. Yes I will negotiate those prices up front for later on.

Now a really important question. Where do you 990 owners put your...umm...coffee mogs? I can deal with the basic nature of the beast but a place to keep the "coffee" would be great. Anyone have a solution?

I love my 990. I've got the 300CX loader with the 60" bucket and a Frontier RB2084 rear blade. The only thing I don't like about the loader is the bucket dump is slow, and it does not curl the bucket and lift at the same time very well. If you are going to be doing any loader work, I highly recommend getting MFWD.
