A friend of mine recently purchased a 6x12 tandem axle, enclosed cargo trailer that he plans to pull with his Toyota T100 p/u truck. The truck is full size with an automatic transmission and 4 cylinder engine. I told him he might have a bit too much trailer for his truck but he insisted he is only going to haul "light stuff". I suggested a tranny cooler and fluid/filter change as he has 90K miles and has never serviced the transmission. He called me the next day ranting how his truck now has no power at all and barely made it home. I assured him this has nothing to do with the transmission cooler or fluid change. I asked him what did he have done to the truck? Come to find out he had the cooler installed and a full service performed on the truck at the local Jiffy Lube. They told him all was well, it must be something else wrong with the truck. He then took it to the Toyota dealer and told them what he had done and to please diagnose and let him know how much to fix it. Well, by the time he returned home (15 minutes) his wife told him the Toyota garage called and that his truck was ready. He went right back and the service mgr and mechanic were howling with laughter. Turns out when the "tech" at Jiffy Lube replaced his air filter he neglected to take the plastic packaging off of the filter resulting in a tremendous restriction. They charged him $60.00 for the diagnostic time on the machine. His pride was hurt and he was a bit peeved at Jiffy when he went back with the invoice from the Toyota garage. They cheerfully reimbursed the $60.00 and he was on his way.
