REALLY! news to me!

Steve, I've raised lots of yellow cucumbers, but not by choice, only because I overlooked them; i.e., didn't find them when I was picking cucumbers until it was too late.:D Sometimes they can be hard to find when they're green, but they show up better when they turn yellow.:D

ok so im really a garden noob (dispite what it may look like)

so when is the best time to pick a cuke... for the best flavor? best texture?.... is it based on size? based on color?

we keep looking for "green ones" and kept finding yellowish ones. :D

i mean its easy to pick tomato's (if they are a red veritity) pick when red or nearly red. :D

When in doubt........read the back of the seed packet(if you have one). They're several different varieties of cukes and they come in many different sizes and textures.

I'm also familiar with the yellowing from being overly ripe. There must be an early detection cucumber device out there somewhere.:D ....Now that I think about it, I have several....they're called squirrels.

Yep, Don, too many varieties to have a single definitive answer.

I like the cukes when the seeds inside are still small.:D :D

Jinman. Thanks for starting this thread. I haven't been checking on things for a few weeks but man all of the garden pics look great. We just have a "table garden" 15 * 30 but we really enjoy the rewards. Maybe when my better half seens these pictures I can get my pto tiller.

Jinman. Thanks for starting this thread.

This thread and everyone's gardens is a thrill to me. I think I could take Don's lettuce pictures and make a great wallpaper out of it for my Windows Desktop. I mean, I can grow a big garden, but Don's is both spectacular and pretty. What a showpiece!

Steve is also doing great and learning the best techniques in his area...if he can only get his peppers going (I suspect his plants were "sick" when he bought them).

And JC...his cattle panel tomato cages in long rows, and Randy's broccoli, and Dumbdog's prodding for me open a roadside stand.:) How could you not love this thread? I know I do.:D

...but I've had grandkids for the last week and have not been posting much. I don't know how my daughter does it and goes to school too. Taking care of four kids is a fulltime job. I couldn't squeeze more than a few minutes of TBN time the last few days. I've got a lot of catching up to do.

i think we have a small cross polination problem with the pumpkins in the next row over... what do you think?

Steve, it seems to me that pumpkins are too different from cucumbers to cross-pollenate. I could be very wrong, but it just doesn't seem likely. However, I do believe I am getting cross-pollenation between squash and pumpkins. I've shown one picture of a "squashkin" and now I have another plant that looks like a "pumpkuash." This one is a perfectly round pumpkin shaped fruit that is bright, bright yellow. I will try to get a picture this morning. In the meantime, I have a picture to go along with my "Mr. Mator" picture from last year's garden. I've attached them just for fun. My wife "crafted" Mrs. Mator."

Mr. Mator is one lucky guy... aren't her earrings stunning?:D
