Jim\'s new projects

Sorry I have been scarce lately. I have benefited several times over from the conversation on this forum. I’ve just been wrapped up in building my airplane and have not come out to play for a while.

I’m starting a pretty aggressive project, (in the winter?)

Over the winter/spring and summer, I plan on:

Regrading my side yard
Putting up a 34‘ x 40’ shop
Building a place to park my RV
Putting up a stone wall
Modifying my driveway and paving it.

I know that you guys love pictures, so I will have plenty of them. Maybe you can give me lots of suggestions!

Jim!

Each in itself is a mjaor project. Keep taking pictures so we can watch the progress. If you have weather like ours, you will be able to start construction very soon.

Re: Jim\'s new projects

Isn't it something? Winter just came for a week or two after Thanksgiving and hasn't been back since. Heck, I saw earthworms on the sidewalk on January 13th. It was almost 50. I would have gone fishing in the boat Saturday had the wind not been gusting 20-30MPH. All of the local ice fishing derbies have been cancelled due to no hard water. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I'll start with some pictures this weekend.

Re: Jim\'s new projects

Ok, I worked with my buddy and his skid loader this week to create a level pad for the pole barn. While he was digging and spreading dirt, I was digging out a parking pad which will go on the side of the build, for my RV.

He dug the initial trench and I finished off the remaining 10' x 60' and moved the dirt over to the low side of the pad while he was leveling. BTW, I had dug out a 15' x 20' trench in the middle of the building pad while he broke up a bunch of concrete and dumped it in the hole. then he covered the whole thing over while I kept bringing him dirt.

I used the 4 in 1 bucket for everything, digging, spreading and grading... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The building will be 28' x 40' with a 6' porch on the front, (34' truss)

We widened the driveway so that we can all back up and turn around without driving on the grass.

The RV parking pad is going to be about 15' x 45' along the right side of the building.

I am putting a stone wall in which will extend from my house, (across from the Pole Barn, along the right side and down the right edge of the RV parking pad. I guess it will be about 80'-100'. I'm not sure yet how far I want to take it. I will probably add a set of stone steps up to the top area to make it easier to walk up there to the stream in the back.

Here is the same picture with a cartoon drawing that represents the building.

(excuse my lack of artistic ability...)

Re: Jim\'s new projects

Here's a shot of where the stone wall is going to go, looking from the back left side of the building towards my garage.

It kind of wraps around and up right to where the old dog pen is. It will also extend back from where I was standing to take the picture. The height of the wall will vary to match the ground level.

Re: Jim\'s new projects

In the back, we are going to be cleaning up the briars and brush and redirect the stream to a better location. The will slow it down when we get a big rain, and also give me more ground behind the building.

THis is the stream as it is today.

Re: Jim\'s new projects

Here is the approximate new path of the stream.

You have to use a little imagination to visualize this... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
