Re: Jim\'s new projects

We put the roof trusses on today. It's amazing how fast this can go when you have a guy who knows what he is doing, and a crain to lift them in place!

Re: Jim\'s new projects

My next task will be smoothing out the ruts from the skid steer on the garage floor.

Also, today comes the roof!

The 425 comes in handy with the pallet forks for lifting bunches of 2x4 stringers.

Re: Jim\'s new projects

The front of the building will be covered with stone like the house. I will be laying in 4" of stone and then 4" of concrete for the floow. The 425 will fit inside the building very easily to smooth the dirt out and put down the stone.

Jim,
You sure don't let any grass grow under your feet. That was the fastest barn raising I have seen. VERY NICE JOB!

Re: Jim\'s new projects

Thanks guys... I've been waiting a LONG time for this. There is still a lot to do out there though.

After we put the finishing touches on the building, I still have to:

Stone the front of the building
Build up the driveway
Pave the driveway
Build a stone wall along the right side of the building
Install a dog pen
Re-do my front landscaping.

They will be my projects for the summer, fall and next spring. I know I am being aggressive, but the PT really has made my job easier and faster with a LOT of tasks.

It did go fast... /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif But living in the middle of "Amish Central", people around here know how to raise barns quickly. Three days of construction. Monday, Thursday and Friday. The longest wait was for the Trusses to get here! It pays to get help from guys who know what they're doing.

One more day to install the garage doors and finish a few little items and two more to put the stone on the front.

I'm going to lay the stone for the floor with my 425. It easily maneuvers around inside that big building. Then I can concrete /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Got the garage doors in today. I should have them on by tomorrow and will have pictures. They are 8' x 9' doors. Nice and high for my truck! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Jim\'s new projects

Here's a shot of the building with the doors on. The next step is to bring 2A Modified stone in and raise the driveway up some while sloping it down and to the left. The gaps under the doors allow for 4" of stone and then 4" of concrete.

I have the stone veneer coming for the front this month, (I hope)? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

You can also see where the stone retaining wall will be in the back.

Re: Jim\'s new projects

In looking at my driveway, I have ro raise the grade in some places as much as 8-10". Can I layer the 2A-Modified on it'self that much?

Re: Jim\'s new projects

What's 2A modified? Some sort of crushed rock? Just curious. I used slag in my driveway because my dad used slag in his driveway(fortunately, my dad didn't drive tractors with 3PT hitches /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif).

Re: Jim\'s new projects

2A modified is a crushed stone about 3/8' - 1/2" in size. It usually containes a fair amount of quarry dust and packs down really nice. Since this area of PA is quarry central, (second only to Amish central), a lot of people use it for their driveway and never end up paving.

THe biggest problem is that you always have dust on your nice clean car when you drive up and down the driveway. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
